For many Singaporeans, Orchard Road is not just a shopping street but also a destination for dining. Several fashion labels have used food and beverage ventures to expand their lifestyle offerings in the shopping belt. Among them is Benjamin Barker, known for its smart-casual heritage-inspired menswear. The brand opened its cafe concept at Orchard Cineleisure before the pandemic. In August this year, the cafe has been rebranded as the BB Recreation Club Cafe (BBRC) and given a new fashionable look.
A Cafe from a Fashion Label
Benjamin Barker describes itself as a “modern-day gentlemen’s outfitter”. Its foray into food is not unusual. The growth of cafes like PS.Cafe and Avenue on 3 shows how retail and dining can blend successfully.
Located at street level, the new BB Recreational Club Cafe in Cineleisure sits directly below the Benjamin Barker retail store. A staircase links the ground floor dining area to the apparel shop upstairs.
The stylish dining space has a retro-modern interior design. The use of timber elements and soft lighting give the place a warm, inviting atmosphere. BBRC is the sort of cafe where you will happily settle in with a good coffee and lose track of time.
The standout design feature is the coffee counter, which pays homage to classic hi-fi culture with vintage-style speakers flanking a collection of vinyl records displayed in illuminated shelving. The counter itself has a modern look with clean lines and professional coffee equipment that suggests serious attention to brew quality.

BBRC menu offers modern cafe fare with Asian and European influences. It is about fashionable casual dining.
The appetiser selection includes both comfort food classics like truffle fries ($14) and tater tots ($10), alongside options such as spicy gyoza ($12) and potato salad featuring Fuji apple, ajitama and ikura ($10).
The mains section of the menu has considerable variety and caters to different dietary preferences. Health-conscious diners will appreciate options like the prawn and quinoa bowl ($21) with kale and rocket pesto, or the yuzu chicken salad ($20) with mesclun and feta. For those seeking heartier fare, there is a substantial cheese pull melt ($22) with multiple cheeses and fish and chips with beer-battered halibut ($23). There are also creative fusion dishes like the Avo Cros ($21), a croissant topped with smashed avocado and smoked salmon, and waffle chicken gochujang ($22).

Brunch at BB Recreational Club
During our visit for brunch, we tried two items – Chicken Schnitzel ($23) and B Supreme+ Burger ($25).
The chicken schnitzel ticked all the right boxes. The breaded chicken thigh was well cooked with crispy golden exterior giving way to tender, juicy meat inside. What really elevated this dish was the thoughtful accompaniments: the miso corn puree added a delightful sweetness that paired well with the chicken. The crispy curry leaves provided aroma with a nice kick and the furikake seasoning gave the dish a Japanese twist. The rich, well-balanced sauce was really delicious. It brought the whole dish together.
The B Supreme+ Burger was a premium burger with a premium price. The quality ingredients included a 180g wagyu beef patty, which was tender, flavourful and properly seasoned. The sautéed mushrooms added an earthy richness, while the caramelised onions brought a sweet-savoury balance. On the whole, it was a satisfying hearty burger meal. At $25, it was certainly not cheap for a burger, but the wagyu beef justified the cost. It was the sort of indulgent treat that we would occasionally splurge on.
A Place to Pause in Orchard
BB Recreation Club Cafe in Cineleisure combines comfortable seating, warm lighting and carefully curated music to create a relaxed setting. With a menu that balances variety and familiarity, the cafe suits both solo diners and small groups. Shoppers seeking a calm stop along Orchard Road may find it a pleasant retreat, whether for a full meal or simply a coffee enjoyed at an unhurried pace.
