We first visited Dough Cafe when it opened at CHIJMES in 2021. The concept by the team from Glyph Supply Co integrating a bakery, kitchen and a coffee bar in the same space was a success. So much so that it is not easy to get a table at mealtimes. Off peak is the only way.

Hip Cafe at CHIJMES
There are adequate tables and seats during our late afternoon visit on a weekday. But the downside to this strategy is that the popular pastries at the bakery may sell out by lunch time. Which was what happened. And so the only option for our coffee and bake visit was to select from the items on the menu.

The modern decor and shiny coffee machines at the service counters at Dough are beautiful. You can see pictures of them in our 2021 post. They are also meticulous in the arrangement of their dining furniture. The neat and straight alignment of tables, chairs and stools is a detail that did not go unnoticed by us.

Dough Cafe Coffee
As can be expected in a hip cafe in Singapore, they have a wide range of pour-over coffee beans to choose from. For folks like us who prefer espresso coffee, they only have a choice of two types of beans – Ethiopia or Brazil. Having had some good experience with the former in recent days, we decided to go with the Mewa Yusef Ethiopia bean.

Coffee always tastes better when there is something to nibble. In the face of the empty shelves at the bakery, we ordered the brownie from the menu. This Dough cafe brownie turned out to be more complicated than we expected. Two pieces of brownie, some granola, meringue shards and vanilla ice cream. It was delightful with a mix of different textures.

As for the coffee, the cappuccino ($5) was smooth, creamy and complex. Exactly as we had remembered it to be. Even better was that the price had not increased since our 2021 visit. This is also another point that did not go unnoticed by us. At our last visit, we said that this was probably the best coffee we had in recent months. We had the same sentiment on this visit as well. Also, the same hidden bear that appears midway through the coffee to wave at us showed up again and is still so adorable.
