One of our favourite places for breakfast at Orchard Road is the Avenue On 3 Café in The Paragon shopping mall. Good coffee, warm scones and a cosy place are all we need for a simple breakfast. And this place has all that, plus friendly service.
Where to Eat at Orchard Road at 9am
Avenue On 3 Café in The Paragon is located on level 3 of the mall. It is open everyday and the early opening time of 9am makes it a suitable place for breakfast. The alternative places would be the famous cafe chains that also open quite early. But we think the ambience and coffee here is much better.
Paragon is a popular mall for tourists staying at the many Orchard Road hotels nearby. If I am one of them, this is a place I would go to have breakfast at Orchard Road without paying the high hotel breakfast prices. I think it is also a convenient place for those who have early morning medical appointments at the nearby clinics, medical centres and hospital. Some medical tests require overnight fasting and it seems like a nice place to recharge after the medical tests are done.
Being located on a higher floor and not one of the “famous” coffee places, the cafe is usually quite peaceful and the seats are more comfortable than typical cafes.

Here are pictures of some pages from the cafe menu. The range of food available is quite wide but I should say that I have only been here for breakfast / brunch kind of food. Therefore I am not familiar with the heavier food items.
Simple Breakfast at Orchard Road
On this visit, we tried a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese ($13). The bagel itself was good but not as outstanding as their scones. However they did a good job toasting it just nice to create a light crust without making the bagel harder than it already was. It was a simple food that goes so well with the strong coffee.
The highlight of our visit to this Paragon cafe was of course the scones. The three scones cost $23, which price includes a cup of coffee and the spreads (the French butter, strawberry jam and English Devon clotted cream). The layout may not be as elaborate as a proper high tea setting but good enough for a simple breakfast or snack break.
The warm scones were served in a fabric blanket which retained the heat quite well. The jars contain the butter, jam and clotted cream. Buttery and light, the scones tasted good with any combination of the spreads.
Perhaps the real draw for us to keep going there for breakfast at Orchard Road is the coffee. The cappuccino is strong and smooth and provided the perfect accompaniment to the scones and bagel. The nice tableware used may also have helped make everything taste better psychologically.
