COMO Cuisine Set Lunch at Orchard Road

COMO Cuisine set lunch is a new two-course option for a weekday lunch at this restaurant on the second level of COMO Metropolitan Singapore (the hotel opposite Paragon). What does $40++ get you in the posh shopping belt at the heart of the world’s most expensive city? Not bad is the short answer.

COMO Cuisine Orchard Cafe

We had previously written about this modern cafe at COMO Orchard. There are more info and photos in our 2023 post. It is located on level 2 of COMO Orchard Singapore which is described as a 19 floor building which brings together the COMO Groupโ€™s hospitality, fashion, wellness and cuisine. In addition to hotel, spa and f & b, shopping is also available in the form of collections from multi-label Club 21.

We had written about this cafe before. What is new this time is COMO Cuisine’s new set lunch menu.

COMO Cuisine Set Lunch Menu

No, they have not created a new menu. The menu looks like not much has changed since our previous visits. What they have cleverly done was to bundle two courses – choose one from the starter and mains sections of the menu for a total price of $40++. A few items require a surcharge (e.g. the steak mains). In addition, some of the small plate items may have their portion re-sized when ordered as an appetiser for the $40 set lunch.

The new COMO Cuisine set lunch menu also applies to the COMO Shambala Kitchen menu that is also available at the restaurant. Here are pictures from their online menu. The Shambala menu is said to offer more healthy food options.

Choices of Starters

At first glance the satay and the garden greens from the Shambala seemed like the best value for money choices as their regular prices are $18 and $28. These were served in smaller sizes as part of the set lunch menu. The satay had two sticks instead of the usual three or four (we can’t remember). Similarly the salad (right, picture below) was served in an appetiser size. Smaller portions but still good value. Needless to say they still had their usual flavours – very good.

The fritto misto (picture below) is a small platter of mixed deep-fried items – two prawns, some vegetable pieces and a seafood (I think it is squid). It was like a mixed tempura but with thicker batter.

The nut and seed crispbread was the smallest starter. Small finger food size but packed with flavours.

COMO Cuisine Set Lunch – Main Courses

The main courses were served in their regular sizes. This was the grilled wild Scottish salmon. It was served on a base made with lentils, tomato, zucchini, pistachio and lemon salsa. They all combine to make a crunchy tasty sauce for the fish.

We also tried a pasta main course – tagliatelle bolognese. The tagliatelle was thick and chewy, a good match with the rich and beefy ragu sauce. Some mushroom and parmesan added more flavours to the mix.

We could sense the snapper curry before it reached the table. The pieces of fish were cooked in a very fragrant South Indian coconut and tamarind curry.

The saffron rice was also perfectly cooked and could be eaten by itself. The curry and rice combination was the best dish in terms of flavour. The grilled salmon was most healthy and best value for money. It had an a la carte price of $36++ which meant it costs only an additional $4 to get an extra appetiser.
