Do you need to order soup at The Soup Expert? No, despite the name, The Soup Expert at Suntec City does not limit itself strictly to soups. Diners can easily select a full Chinese meal without ordering a single pot of broth. The broader menu lists items such as stir-fried vegetables, seafood, poultry and rice dishes.

Contemporary Chinese restaurant

Located on Level 3 of Suntec City, The Soup Expert features an interior that blends modern Asian aesthetics with warm, natural materials. Its main dining hall is furnished with low-backed booths, timber tables, and woven rattan chairs. There is an additional dining area out in the mall atrium beneath a glass canopy, filling the space with natural daylight. For private gatherings, enclosed rooms have large circular tables.

Lunch at The Soup Expert
During a recent lunch visit, we ordered three dishes – Chinese Date and Fig Root Chicken Soup ($10.90), Hakka Bean Curd with Minced Meat ($14.90) and Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice ($12.90).
Chinese Date and Fig Root Chicken Soup

The Chinese Date and Fig Root Chicken Soup arrived in a white porcelain pot. The broth contained tender chicken pieces and herbal ingredients. While the flavours were mild and clean, the soup itself was fairly ordinary, comforting, but otherwise unremarkable.

What stood out more was the restaurant’s unusual serving method. Staff served the soup in a heavy porcelain pot alongside a matching small cup, expecting diners to pour the liquid directly from the spout. While the presentation was distinct, the design lacked functional ergonomics. The ceramic container retained intense heat, yet no part of the pot was insulated. Consequently, touching the surface, lifting the lid, or pouring the soup proved nearly impossible until the pot had cooled down considerably.

Hakka Bean Curd with Minced Meat

The Hakka Bean Curd with Minced Meat was the best dish of the lunch. Square pieces of braised tofu topped with savoury minced meat and whole soybeans came in a claypot. The tofu retained a firm structure on the outside while remaining very soft inside. Furthermore, the accompanying braising sauce delivered rich savoury notes without tasting overly salty.

Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice

The Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice contained green peas, shrimps, egg whites, and shredded dried scallops. Like the soup, the fried rice tasted acceptable but was not very special in any way. It provided a decent carb component for a casual meal.
Affordable Casual Dining

The Soup Expert provides a pleasant dining environment. Its menu features a broad variety of dishes, including several interesting options not commonly found in typical Chinese restaurants. Prices remain reasonable for a casual dining establishment in Suntec City. Consequently, the restaurant serves as a practical and affordable option for quick weekday lunches or relaxed family dinners.
