COMO Shambhala Kitchen Dempsey is located within the COMO Supernature store which sells organic and natural food. Behind the plain facade of the store front is a wonderful space where healthy food and products are sold and served. We went there for a healthy nutritious lunch.

Supernature by COMO Shambhala
Located in a corner of Dempsey Hill that we had hitherto not ventured into, COMO Shambhala Kitchen is situated within Supernature by COMO Shambala. They are housed in the same building as sister restaurant Torno Subito. Other COMO Dempsey restaurants such as Culina Bistro, Dempsey Cookhouse, Ippoh Tempura and Candlenut are also just a stone’s throw away.

Being within the Supernature store, it is a nice place to eat. Diners walk past shelves displaying all sorts of beautiful produce and other food products. Here are some pictures of the items on display as we walked though the space.

There is some resemblance to the market section of Culina. But this grocery section at COMO Supernature is much smaller and I believe it focuses mainly on organic food. There is also a meat section but the selection is quite limited.

The Salad Bar
The COMO Shambhala Kitchen restaurant is not very big. It is casually decorated and the rattan chairs and hanging lamps lend it a resort feel. There are also some tables outside but these were obviously not popular during these hazy days.

Most of the food available were displayed, salad bar style. The first section of the food display (picture below) was the cold food section.

Further down the display were the warm food items. Meat items were noticeably fewer than the vegetables.

The nicest meat option was the roasted free range chicken which we selected, together with sweet potatoes, pumpkin and assorted vegetables for our mixed food platter.

COMO Shambhala Kitchen Dempsey Menu
In addition to the food displayed, other specific cooked food items were also available. These can be ordered from the menu which is different for weekdays and weekends. For our first visit to COMO Shambala Dempsey, we decided to try the Thai beef bone broth noodle soup.

Our Healthy Lunch at COMO Shambhala Kitchen Dempsey Singapore
First let me show you the assorted food platter which we assembled by pointing at items on display (as in cai fan style). The cost of the entire platter was $44. Roasted free range chicken ($17), pickled squash ($9), sweet potato ($9) and broccoli salad ($9).

Obviously healthy eating (clean fuel for your body) is expensive. We received good descriptions of the food on display by the staff in attendance who helped us in the food selection. The sweet potato was said to be organic and from Bhutan. They were served with skin on (the brown items next to the chicken (picture below)). Taste-wise they were not bad, but I prefer the Japanese style of sweet potatoes such as those from Don Don Donki.

Our favourite item of the platter was the squash (picture below). This was sweet and chewy, almost like Japanese sweet potato. The broccoli salad was made up of many types of vegetables. It tasted fresh and added texture and flavours to the platter. We included the chicken as protein and it was nice and moist. I think we did well in mixing and matching the different items, making it an interesting and satisfying dish.

COMO Shambhala Kitchen Beef Noodles
We picked the beef noodles ($26) as the cooked food item to try on our first visit to COMO Shambhala Kitchen Dempsey. Partly because the description looked interesting and people at the table next to us seemed to be enjoying theirs. The serving staff had the initiative to ask if we were sharing the noodles and offered to separate the dish into two small servings. It was a good idea!

We dunked all the mint leaves and beansprouts provided as soon as possible. They added extra aroma and texture to the beef noodle dish. There were decent chunks of beef and tendons in the soup. However, the quantity of noodles was low. Even combining the split portions into one, we thought it could do with more noodles. I guess healthy eating may also mean less carbo in the meal. The soup was beefy yet clear in taste. It managed to feel meaty yet without being oily or heavy.
Dessert and Coffee
For dessert we had a slice of chocolate pumpkin cake ($8) and capuccino ($7 each). They were both very good. Furthermore, unlike the prices of the other items (which were rather high), these prices were similar to what usual coffee places charge. COMO Shambhala Kitchen could be a place to go to for dessert and coffee even if we eat at some other restaurant in Dempsey.

Guerilla Coffee at COMO Shambhala Kitchen
It turns out that the coffee we drank was made with Guerilla coffee beans #2. We did not know of them until that day. They certainly tasted good and creamy. The friendly barista told us it was not a very dark roast.

He also seemed to be very fond and proud of the San Remo coffee machine and explained some of its automated functions to us. The friendliness level was high among all the staff we met that day.
