Racines Sofitel Singapore is a new restaurant in a new hotel, Sofitel Singapore City Centre. It is located in the same complex as the Tanjong Pagar Centre. According to the Racines restaurant website, they serve a menu of traditional French classics and timeless Chinese dishes. The restaurant name “Racines” is French for roots. They apparently use herbs grown at the Sofitel hotel’s own herb garden. We were there for lunch.
If you are deciding whether to go Nesuto Patisserie to try their famous cakes, the answer is a simple one – yes. This minimalist cafe in Tanjong Pagar serves those beautiful looking cakes that are light and yummy. The kind that we have come to expect from good Japanese-French patisseries. But there is one thing you need to know before you head over to Nesuto.
With National Day on our minds, we thought we should look out for a restaurant with a Singapore National Day themed lunch. We ended up with ‘French Ba Kut Teh’ of the BarRoque Grill at the Amara Hotel. For National Day 2017, they were offering two special dishes – “French Ba Kut Teh Slow cooked goodness with our special mix of herbs and spices” and “French Chicken Rice Singapore’s favourite dish, done with French techniques” – which sounded interesting, plus they also have a Michelin Bib Gourmand award.
Bistro du Vin at Shaw Centre is high on our list of restaurants for affordable French food in Singapore. They had closed for a couple of weeks in April 2017 for a makeover. We dropped by recently to try their set lunch in the newly renovated premises.
Essen at the Pinnacle is a collection of food stalls in an air-conditioned space, food court style. Here you can find French cuisine by Garçons, innovative burgers by Burger Buddies, fried chicken wings by Two Wings, Italian food by La Stalla, Thai and Vietnamese fare by Viethai and a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, especially beers and ciders. Essen is located on the ground floor of the 50-storey Pinnacle at Duxton, the most impressive HDB project in Singapore so far. Do note that because it is a huge project, locating Essen at the Pinnacle can be a challenge. We suggest you head towards the part that is closest to Craig Road which runs in front of the restaurant.
Restaurant André at Bukit Pasoh is now among world’s best restaurants having earned 14th place at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants award ceremony in 2017. It is the only restaurant from Singapore on the World’s top 50 list published by the William Reed Media Group. The 2 Michelin Star French restaurant is No.2 on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2017 and is named as S. Pellegrino’s Best Restaurant in Singapore for many years. Dining at Restaurant André is an experience not to be missed in Singapore – if your budget allows it.
