Lots Gourmet cafe in Changi packs in the lunch crowds

Lots Gourmet cafe in Changi is a tiny place that is a magnet that draws in the crowds at lunch time.  Located in a residential and commercial development called Changi Garden along Upper Changi Road North (diagonally across the road from Changi Prison),  you would not think that this faraway place is a spot to find a bustling cafe on a weekday afternoon.  But it seems that good food and smart pricing will always be a winning formula, even in the most far-flung places of SIngapore.

Lots Gourmet cafe in Changi was full when I was there.  Fortunately it was around 2 pm, the tail end of the lunch break and some people were about to leave.  A short 10 minutes later, I was seated at one of the tiny tables near the entrance.  The restaurant is small but the efficient space utilisation enabled them to pack quite a lot of people in this small space.  Even part of the pavement outside was used for seating by the clever use of the boundary wall as a counter-top.

The main space was not air-conditioned but the temperature was kept at a reasonable level by a number of ceiling fans spinning furiously. There is a small air-conditioned mezzanine level which can seat about 10 people. You can also look down on to the main level from there.  The down-side of that location is that it will take more effort to get the attention of the servers as the main action takes place below. Lots Gourmet serves western food but their main attraction seems to be their $15 set lunch.  Here is their set lunch menu as well parts of their regular menu.

I decided to try the Lots Burger with fries.  It turned out to be a large burger with long sticks of fries.  I would not use the words “exceptional” or “gourmet” to describe the burger but it certainly was decent. The  large beef patty will satisfy even one with a large appetite. The usual vegetables – tomato, onion and lettuce were generously piled into the burger, making it a 5-inch high tower.  The fries were thick and lightly fried so that you get a crisp and soft feeling with each bite.   Here is another view of the burger.

The cafe also stocks a good selection of beers and there are good happy hour deals. For example Erdinger beer costs $12.50 per bottle and $20 for two during HH which starts from lunchtime on some days ( I think Friday to Sunday – but please call to check).  All in all the Lots Gourmet cafe in Changi is an interesting place to stop by for lunch or for drinks if you are in the area.
