We were back at Bigmama Korean restaurant in Biopolis recently to try out their Korean grilled meat (galbisal seoksoe hanpan) at Bigmama. We had been there before and were curious about this dish that some others were having at that time. Bigmama has quite a wide selection of barbecued or grilled meat selections. You can see their menu below.
On the recommendation of the staff, we decided on the Korean charcoal grilled beef short rib (galbisal seoksoe hanpan). Each order costs $50 and we were informed that each order was more than adequate for two diners. So that was all we ordered for our dinner.
Which was a good thing as we had forgotten about the free flow of side dishes that were complementary. In addition to the essential kimchi, there were another five dishes to whet your appetite.
The main dish of Korean grilled meat (galbisal seoksoe hanpan). The meat was cut into thin bite-sized portions and served with the grilling apparatus. The slices of beef were tender and easy to eat. They had been marinated well so that the sauces had penetrated into the meat. We would have preferred that the seasoning was less sweet. Perhaps it was just the way Korean grilled meat is served. But a little less seasoning would allow for the natural beef taste to be more prominent.
Still, it was a generally enjoyable dish. The meat was served with vegetables and we were recommended to eat them together. It reminded us of eating Peking duck, which also has the accompanying sweet sauce and vegetables.
The one-dish-dinner was more than enough for the two of us. In fact we did not ask for any refill of the side dishes. Meat eaters would like this dish. $50 for a hearty meat-filled dinner for two was not bad in this day and age.
