The new Dallas Restaurant & Bar is housed in a glass cube on the roof top of the Suntec City Mall. The roof top, or more glamorously known as the Sky Garden, has been substantially renovated and new f & b outlets are sprouting up on the roof, of which Dallas is one of them.
Dallas Restaurant & Bar looked lovely from the outside and we were attracted to try the restaurant from its looks and the very hospitable young lady at the door who greeted us and showed as the place. The restaurant serves what is best described as “Western” cuisine including items such as pastas, burgers and steaks. The drinks menu was as extensive as the food menu, as you can see from the pictures below.
The interior of Dallas Restaurant & Bar was tastefully furnished. The use of white table linen never fails to add a touch of elegance to the decor.
From the extensive drinks list, the huge bar and the provision for live music entertainment we could roughly imagine its transformation from elegant diner in the day to party animal by night. Indeed, we were pleasantly surprised that live music was provided at lunch time on the Sunday that we were there.
Things got even better when the set lunch menu was shown to us. There was a choice of a two or three-course Christmas lunch priced at $28 or $34 respectively. Here is a picture of the set lunch and dinner menu. The pricing of the set lunch made it the obvious choice.
The starters that we selected were the lobster bisque and the cauliflower fritters. The bisque was quite concentrated and tasty. The cauliflower fritters were well seasoned with a variety of spices and tasted very good.
We tried all the main course selections other than the prime rib. The best mains, which we highly recommend is the chicken fajitas. The presentation of the dish was attractive and serving the tortillas in dim sum baskets was a very clever touch.
The next best items were the leg of ham and roast turkey. Basically the presentation of the dishes looked very similar, only the colour of the slices of the meat were different. Both of them were good and we will be happy to eat these for lunch again.
The least-favoured-dish status went to the pan-fried barramundi. There was nothing wrong with this dish, just that the fish tasted very neutral and the dish was just very plain.
The two desserts available were the sticky date pudding and the chocolate brownie. Both were rather good and also served in generous portions. Each could easily be shared by two people.
Coffee or tea was also included in the meal, which made the $28 two-course lunch a value for money proposition. All that and with live entertainment thrown in made Dallas Restaurant & Bar a place we want to return to again.
