Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant Bedok

Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant Bedok

Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant Bedok is the type of restaurant that many ordinary Singaporeans like. The Chinese restaurant in East Village is where you can get zi char dishes in a clean comfortable air-conditioned environment; but you will not feel out of place even if you are in shorts and slippers. It is another “good food no frills” kind of place.

We went to Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant Bedok on a weekend evening and the place was busy. They were tables of various sizes and many families were having dinner there. Those who needed the bigger tables had made reservations in advance. There were also many who were buying food to bring home.

The menu of Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant Bedok is quite extensive. A wide array of seafood dishes as well as one dish meals are available. Prawn Paste Chicken, Sum Lor Hor Fun, Salted Fish Fried Rice, Deep Fried Cereal Prawns and Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves are some of the more popular items on their menu.

We wanted something simple and ordered  Seafood Yi Mee ($6), Sliced Fish Bee Hoon Soup and Baby Kai Lan ($8). Chinese tea was $1.20 each. No service charge or GST was added to the bill; but the paper towels would be $0.30 each.

The food was served within about 15 minutes. The portion of the Seafood Yi Mee was quite generous. The gravy was light, savoury and tasty. The noodles were slippery but had a good bite and there was a pleasant aftertaste. The dish was enjoyable.

The Kai Lan had a balanced mix of leaves and crunchy succulent stems. The vegetables had a nice clean taste.

The Sliced Fish Bee Hoon Soup did not look very exciting, with only the  green vegetables giving some colour to the very pale looking dish. However, the taste of the simple dish of fish slices and thick bee hoon was very good. The fish was fresh and tender. The creamy soup was flavourful but not overpowering. All the ingredients combined well to produce a tasty and enjoyable dish.

We enjoyed our simple and rather healthy meal at Hong Kong Street Family Restaurant Bedok. The place is unpretentious and pleasant. There is a wide choice of dishes available at reasonable prices. There are easy parking options –  with a surface  car park right next to the restaurant as well as a basement car park in East Village. Another restaurant to add to our cheap and good list.

  1. This place has great food but an absolutely horrible atmosphere. Looks and feels like a factory. Walls, floor and ceiling are all boring looking hard surfaces that bounce the sound back. Therefore, the sounds of the blasting aircon and the many families are amplified, creating a very oppressive environment. If they would spend some time and a few thousand dollars on this, they could create a comfortable environment to go with the excellent food.
