Parkway Thai Restaurant at Biopolis, One-North

Parkway Thai Restaurant is a simple, unpretentious restaurant in Biopolis, One-North. In the day, it attracts a fair volume of office workers who work in this biomedical research and development hub at Buona Vista. In the evenings, things quieten down a bit. We were there for dinner and had the place all to ourselves.

As you can see from the pictures, the decor of Parkway Thai restaurant is clean and utilitarian, almost canteen like. There is an outdoor dining area and an indoor air-conditioned section. On a cool day, the outdoor area may be more pleasant as it looks out into some open space and the neighbouring building which is quite attractive.

The Parkway Thai Restaurant menu is quite extensive. It contains all the usual Thai food that we can think of.  What made the menu more interesting was the ala carte set meal options. For either $16 or $20 per person, one can get a meal with seven or eight dishes. The $20 meal offers slightly more “high end” options (e.g. beef instead of chicken).  We decided to try the lower cost option.

There are pros and cons to having the restaurant to ourselves. Of course we enjoyed the peace and quiet.  But the quiet evening meant that the kitchen could whip up all the seven dishes within ten minutes. So we had all the dishes (other than desserts) facing us at the same time shortly after placing our order.

The set meal provides two options for each course – e.g. for fish fillet – either sweet and sour or lemongrass; chicken in red or green curry. The curry, the fish fillet and chickens were essentially competently prepared, but quite average. The best items were the prawn cakes and the olive rice.  As for the fried baby kai lan, the vegetables was nice and crunchy, but it was prepared with a lot of oil.

For dessert – there was a choice of red ruby or herbal jelly.  We selected the red ruby. The red capsules were mostly jelly. We could hardly detect any water chestnut inside. We suggest you try the herbal jelly instead.

Overall, we had mixed feelings about the individual items served – some we liked, some not so much and some were average. But at $16 per head, this was a decent meal for the price.
