Set Lunch at Acqua e Farina Singapore

Today, we take you with us to our set lunch at Acqua e Farina Singapore, the Italian restaurant at Rail Mall in Upper Bukit Timah.  This restaurant was formerly known as Galbiati Gourmet Deli until late last year.  ” Acqua e Farina” means water and flour in Italian – essential ingredients which go into making pizza and pasta.  Always popular with folks working in this part of town because of the free parking available, Rail Mall now gets even more human traffic with the opening of the new Hillview Station on the Downtown Line which is a 5 minute walk away.

The Rail Mall in general has a laid back feel and Acqua e Farina Singapore reflects its suburban location with its simple, cozy decor. It has a direct view of the railway bridge and is close to one of the access points to get onto the former railway track.

One weekdays, Acqua e Farina serves a three course set lunch with coffee. The price starts from $18.80 for a basic spaghetti aglio olio. Here are pictures of the set lunch menu and a couple of pages from the regular menu.  We selected the mushroom pizza ($22.80) and fettuccine al forno ($23.80) as the main courses.

For starters, we had the soup of the day (pumpkin soup) and the sautéed mushrooms. They were both pretty good. The mushrooms had a robust flavour and were a good companion to eat with the bread provided. We only wished that the presentation could have been better.

The best part of the mushroom pizza was its thin crust – served really hot and crisp. The flavour of the pizza was quite average.

The fettuccine with salmon was a more tasty dish.  The pasta was thin and with chewy texture. The salmon and sauce combined well to make this the best dish of the day.

The dessert of the day was a slice of sponge cake – a simple but nice sweet end to the meal.  The set lunch at Acqua e Farina Singapore was a laid back, relaxed occasion.  It would certainly be one of the Italian dining options to consider if we are in the Hillview / Upper Bukit Timah location.

11am – 3pm; 5pm – 10.15pm

Closed every Monday, with one exception:
If a public holiday falls on Monday, the restaurant will remain open and close on Tuesday instead.
