When it comes to selecting an Italian restaurant, there is a multitude of excellent places in Singapore. Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar, located in Purvis Street, is a good example of a fine Italian eatery. Combining traditional Italian cuisine with a stylish contemporary setting, Garibaldi has become one of the most popular Italian restaurants in Singapore, even before it was awarded One Michelin Star in 2017.
Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar is one of the many bars and restaurants occupying the rows of shophouses in Purvis Street. It has an understated entrance. The sliding glass door opens up to small bar with a striking trendy decor. Walk through the bar and a narrow corridor will lead to the dining rooms.
This dining space with leather armchairs and crisp white linen tablecloths is elegant. Wall paneling with soothing colours and contemporary artworks give it a relaxed, modern feel.
Menus of Garibaldi
Garibaldi Italian Restaurant has a wide range of menus to cater to a diverse clientele. The a la carte menu has all the traditional Italian dishes as well as a few modern variations – including pastas (starting from $28), Parma Ham with Traditional Romagna Fried Dough ($20) Wagyu Beef Cheek with Bone Marrow & Saffron Risotto ($58) and Baked Atlantic Cod with Baby Spinach & Mixed Beans Guazzetto ($58). There are also a Signature 4-course Set Menu, a Creative 6-course Set as well as a Saturday Menu.
In addition, there are a very affordable Set Lunch Menu ($39++) and an interesting Chef’s Lunch Menu ($88++). The menus change from time to time.
Garibaldi Italian Restaurant Chef’s Lunch Menu
Our Garibaldi Chef’s Lunch started with a Summer Salad of Seasonal Fruits. It was a colorful dish with lots of berries. The aged balsamic dressing had a very pleasant sweet tart taste. The salad was light, refreshing and enjoyable.
The next item of the Chef’s Lunch Menu was Tagliolini with Spanner Crab Meat and Asparagus. It was a comforting dish of thin noodles dressed with fresh crab. The portion was quite substantial and could be the main course for a person with small appetite.
There was a choice of main course and we opted for the Pan Seared Mediterranean Seabass Filet. The fish was cooked such that the skin was nicely golden and crisp. It was lightly salted and the meat was tender. The vegetable and light sauce enhanced the taste of the fish.
The dessert was Cheese Tart with Lemon Chantilly Cream and it tasted as good as it looked. The set included coffee or tea.
Garibaldi Italian Restaurant Set Lunch Menu
The set lunch was a simple 3 course affair. The soup of the day was Butternut Pumpkin Soup with Burrata Cheese. The soup was creamy and sweetish. The Burrata cheese had a delicate, milky flavour and an elastic texture and certainly made the soup more interesting.
In addition to the bread and bread sticks served before the meal, some cookies were also offered while we waited for the main course.
The Set Lunch Menu offers a choice of 4 main course dishes. We opted for the Pasta with Braised Beef Ragout in Red Wine Sauce. The dish did not have good looks but it certainly had personality. The beef content was high – it was more like a beef dish with some pasta. The sauce was rich and the beef was flavourful and tender. It was a hearty delicious dish and the most enjoyable item of the lunch.
The set lunch came with dessert of the day but we wanted to try their Lava Cake from the a la carte menu (which meant paying a $10 supplement). The molten chocolate cake was served with a scoop of ice cream. It was very good.
Whether you are looking for fine dining Italian cuisine, a romantic restaurant, an elegant business lunch spot or a reasonably priced good set lunch, Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar will fit the bill. This award-winning restaurant has an upscale but relaxed atmosphere, professional and friendly service and, most importantly, quality enjoyable food at reasonable prices.
