There are many choices available for an Orchard Road set lunch on a weekday. One venue which is quite attractive is Mezza9, Grand Hyatt Singapore. The options include some healthy set lunch options starting from $32++ which are pretty good value for money. If there are available credit card promotions, then it gets even better. Recently we were there armed with a UOB Infinite VISA card which has a “one dines free” deal. This equates to a 50% discount for a party of two which means $16++ for lunch at a 5-star hotel at Orchard Road Singapore. Not bad right? Do note that credit card promos often change from time to time so please check with them on the current offers at the time of reservation (which is something you need to do because it is often full at lunchtime).
Mezza9 is an attractive restaurant. It is a large restaurant but gradually filled up during lunch. It is a popular venue for those seeking an Orchard Road set lunch. My only complaint is that the small tables are packed so close to each other. Most of the people came in twos. Maybe the credit card promotions have something to do with it.
Here are pictures of the lunch menus at Mezza9. The normal set lunch costs $32 and $42 for two and three courses respectively. There are other more specific sets such as lobster ($48) and Japanese bento ($42). Coffee is served with each set lunch.
A loaf of bread is served once we placed our orders. The bread is not bad but what makes it delicious is the salsa sauce provided. This will keep diners satiated until the food arrives.
Two Course Set Lunch
For the two-course lunch, we selected an all seafood lunch. King prawn cocktail as a starter (above picture) and the “sustainable market fish” (picture below) for the main course. The prawns were indeed large and had a good firm texture. As for the fish, I cannot remember what type of fish it was. Lightly grilled it was a meaty and clean tasting fish. Unless there are cholesterol concerns, this combination felt like a healthy set lunch.
Bento
The other healthy set lunch option is the Japanese bento ($42). The compartments in the box contained sashimi, sushi, salad, chicken and fruits. Viewed as a whole, the portion was huge. The vegetables tasted nice with the fish eggs. The teriyaki chicken was probably enough to be lunch itself. We could not finish it. Taste-wise, the items in the bento were not bad but not exceptional either.
We were offered a choice of type of coffee at the end of the meal. We elected for cappuccino. Overall, we thought that it was quite a healthy lunch both for our bodies and wallets.
