Yan Chuan Roasters in Kitchener Complex
Kitchener Complex near the Lavender MRT station is a convenient dining destination for those visiting the offices of The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) or the Jalan Besar Stadium. Toast Box and Oberstrasse Cafe are among the popular F&B outlets this HDB commercial block. Yan Chaun Roasters in Kitchener Complex offers an additional affordable option.
Yan Chuan Roaster has been selling very affordable priced roast meats in an industrial area takeaway stall in Ubi. It recently took over the space vacated by Porn’s Thai Boat Noodee in Kitchener Complex to open a dine-in restaurant. It operates fast food restaurant style – order and pay at the cashier counter and collect your food when your number appears on the screens.
Yan Chuan Roaster Menu
The menu of Yan Chian Roasters is fairly straightforward. Select from pork, duck or chicken and pair it with rice or mantou. The set meal includes a drink.
Yan Chuan Roaster Affordable Set Meals
We visited Yan Chuan Roaster in Lavender recently and ordered a Set B 北京烤鸭 – 1/4 Roasted Peking Duck (usual price $12.90, current special price $6.90) and a Set E 蜜汁叉烧 – Honey Char Siew (usual price $12.90, current special price $6.90).
The roast duck was not bad but not particularly remarkable. It was roasted such that the meat was not dry and retained some fat, and the skin crispy. There was no gamey taste. The portion size was quite generous.
We liked the Honey Char Siew better than the Roast Duck. The cut of roasted pork had a combination of lean meat and fatty parts. We found the charred bits at the edges a bit hard and chewy. Overall, the taste was quite nice. The portion of the char siew was again rather substantial.
Yan Chuan Roaster in Kitchenr Complex does not serve gourmet roast meats. The roast duck and char siew we tried were nice but nothing to rave about. The standard is about the same as the roast meats found in an average hawker stall. However, at current prices, eating at Yan Chuan Roaster may be cheaper than eating in a food court. For those with an average appetite, order 2 sets and an extra bowl of rice and you can have a good meal for three. With the savings, after eating at Yan Chuan you can head across to 檳城家鄉味 Traditional Penang Food and pay for probably the best Penang chendol you can find in Singapore.
