Buttercake N Cream Restaurant, Sunset Way - set lunch deal

Buttercake N Cream is a country style restaurant at Sunset Way (off Clementi Road). It is one of the several restaurants in this cluster of restaurants. This area gets active at night when the seafood restaurant and the pubs get into full swing. In the afternoon on weekdays, things are a bit quiet and there are good lunch time deals to try.

Like many of the restaurants at Sunset Way, the indoor dining area is small. The main dining space is outdoors – well-shaded, but no air-conditioning. The dining space in front of Buttercake and Cream restaurant is decorated with artificial plants and patio furniture, giving a nice shady feel even on a hot Singapore afternoon.

Buttercake N Cream Sunset Way serves Western cuisine. Popular items such as burgers, pasta and steaks are on the menu. What was of interest to us were the lunch time set menus. There are two of them priced at $20.90++ and $15.90. Students get a 10% discount. What was not publicised was a 50% discount for the second lunch order. We were pleasantly surprised when the bill came. The second $15.90 lunch enjoyed a 50% dsicount. Averaging that out, it was a 25% for both of us, effectively a $11.95++lunch per pax.

Sunset Way Three Course Set Lunch

We decided to have the cheaper $15.90 set lunch. There was a choice of free drinks – “Fruity Blossoms” or the “Bar’s Special”. We asked for one of each. The Fruity Blossom was a nice fruity concoction which looked very attractive as well. The Bar’s Special was a bottle of Snapple. The former was the more interesting choice.

Our appetiser of the day was mushroom soup. The soup itself was quite good but we did not like the wooden bowls that there were served in. They look like they have been well used.

There was a wider range of choices for the main courses, with six to choose from. We chose the Chef’s Roasted Half Spring Chicken and the Bombastic Swiss Beef Burger. Both dishes were well presented. The taste of each was quite average but more than appropriate for the price of our lunch. The chicken has a nicely roasted skin but the meat was a tad dry. The burger had a plump beef patty topped with mushrooms and vegetables.

The dessert of the day was a scoop of ice-cream with a dollop of cream. Simple but good enough for a simple lunch costing us a total of $26.20 (including service charge).
