Many malls in Singapore get pretty crowded during meal times. Although retail outlets remain closed, people are heading to the malls to buy food and to visit banks and supermarkets as well. If you are looking for a mall in the East with a good range of takeaway options but does not get too crowded, you may want to check out Kinex Mall. Takeaway from Kinex can mean Ribeye Steak and Avo & Hummus Toast or cheap and good Congee and Curry Rice.
KINEX Mall (previously known as One KM Mall) in Tanjong Katong is not big but has a good variety of food options see KINEX Mall – Restaurants and Food Places and Hidden Gem in Kinex – the Basement Food Hall.
We visited Kinex Food Hall recently to get Li Fang Congee & Curry Hero’s Pork Cutlet Curry Rice.
Li Fang Congee
Li Fang Congee is one of the places recommended by Michelin Guide for Comforting Congee. Besides a range of congee, it also offers set meals and side dishes for takeaway and delivery,
Our Li Fang Congee takeaway from Kinex food hall was pork congee ($4.50) and sesame oil chicken congee ($6.50). The congee was nicely packed in takeaway bowls which managed to keep the food hot till we arrived home about 15 minutes later.
The congee was delicious comfort food. Our photos do not do justice to the congee as the ingredients were buried under the porridge. The porridge was fragrant and silky. The different ingredients combined well – the sesame oil chicken congee and the pork and had slightly different textures and varied layers of flavours, but both were delightful. The garnishing of fried shallots and spring onions also helped to make Li Fang congee more interesting and enjoyable.

Curry Hero (Closed)
Curry Hero offers Singaporean curry rice and noodles. There are a variety of toppings and a few side dishes are available. Delivery is now available.
Our takeaway from Kinex included Curry Hero’s Hainanese Pork Cutlet Curry Rice ($5.80). It was packed in an eco-freindly brown container. The pork cutlet was cleverly stacked on top of the fried egg, with the braised vegetables and rice drenched with curry sauce below. The breaded cutlets remained crispy when we opened the container at home.
The curry sauce was nice – fragrant and tasty. The rest of the dish was about what we would expect at that price point – nothing to get too excited about but not bad at all. If we are looking for a satisfying cheap and good one dish meal, we would buy Curry Hero’s Hainanese Pork Cutlet Curry Rice again.
