When you are at a place named Kueh & Mee, what else can you eat other than kueh & mee? So when we were at Kueh & Mee All Day Kafe at Republic Plaza, we had Indonesian kuehs and mee siam; as well as coffee and toast (which is the name of another eatery in Raffles Link actually).
Kueh & Mee All Day Kafe
Kueh & Mee All Day Kafe is located in the basement food hall of Republic Plaza in Raffles Place. We understand that it is a collaboration between Kedaikuekue (which has its main outlet in Great World) and Creative Eateries (the F&B Group which brands such as Bangkok Jam, Eat at Taipei and Fremantle Seafood Market).
The decor is quite eye-catching with the use of Peranakan style floor tiles, bright pastel green ascent and colourful mural on the wall. The furnishing is functional. It is a place for coffee breaks with colleagues or for a quick lunch. It is also a nice gathering place for retirees during the off peak hours.
Menu of Kueh & Mee
The Menu of Kueh & Mee actually offers more than just Indonesian kuehs and noodles. There are nasi uluk, curry chicken, yong tau hu and various other local and Asian delights as well as toasts and eggs.
There are various reasonably priced set meals. For example, there are a Toast Set for $4.50 and an Asian Delight Set starting from $6.90.
Snack Time at Kueh & Mee All Day Kafe
We went to Kueh & Mee All Day Kafe in Republic Plaza for a late morning breakfast. We ordered a Kueh Set ($4) and an Asian Delight (Mee Siam) Set ($6.90). Each Set came with a choice of beverage. We also had an order of Kaya Toast ($1.80).
It is a self service eatery. Order and payment are made at the counter. Food and beverages are collected from the collection point.
The coffee and toast were not bad – not too different from what you would get from a typical coffeeshop.
We got the Kue Lopis and Kue Dadar. Both were nice. It would probably be difficult to find better kues or kuehs in the middle of Raffles Place.
The mee siam was surprisingly good. It looked nice and had lots of ingredients. The bee hoon was well cooked and not soggy. The gravy was not watery and was tangy, savoury and sweet all at once. We liked the rich flavours of the dish.
Coffee, Kueh or Mee?
Kue & Mee in Republic Plaza is an affordable casual cafe for snacks or light lunch in Raffles Place. The place is pleasant and comfortable and the prices are reasonable. We like their mee siam. If we are there again and the question is “Coffee, Kueh or Mee?, we will surely say Mee.
