Leckerbaer Singapore @ Isetan Scotts – Småkager, Tarts & Coffee

Leckerbaer Singapore is the local outlet of the Danish cookie store from Copenhagen, Denmark. They are located on the ground floor of Isetan Scotts. The pretty Danish butter cookies, also known as “småkager” looked enticing enough to make us stop and take an unscheduled coffee break.

Leckerbaer Singapore @ Isetan Scotts - Småkager,

Occupying some space carved out of the cosmetics department on the ground floor, Leckerbaer Singapore @ Isetan Scotts has a prime spot on the shop floor. It has a retail counter as well as an area for dining in. Next to them is another newcomer, Luke’s Lobster Singapore.  Leckabaer was founded by two pastry chefs, Gabi and Jakob Baer Mogensen.

Leckerbaer Singapore @ Isetan Scotts Review

The counter space at Leckerbaer Singapore showcases their Småkager – (traditional Danish butter cookies), tarts and small bakes.

According to the description on the website: “(t)he aromatic and textured Danish butter base will star staples such as Raspberry, where two buttery cookies sandwich a hefty dollop of raspberry jam; Caramel, which entices palates with a caramel sponge and tart blueberry meringue; and the Asian-inspired Vanilla accentuated by calamansi. …”

We decided to try passionfruit and vanilla småkager ($2.80 each), a chocolate tart ($8), a “Blondie” ($7) to go with some coffee.

The two småkager were tiny – literally bite sized. Both the passionfruit and vanilla Danish cookies could be dealt with in one bite. Essentially they were delicate cookies with a nice topping. The two tarts were larger and had more depth of flavours.

The more elaborate Blondie tart (picture above) was nice to look at but quite average in taste. We thought that the chocolate tart (picture below) was the one item we tried that day that lived up to expectations. It was a nice tart with a rich chocolate tart. We felt that the coffee (around $6 each and tasted quite ordinary) could have been more creative to match the attractive cookies.
