Starbucks in an Old Police Station and a New Hospital

Starbucks seems to be everywhere. Starbucks has a new outlet in the former Joo Chiat Police Station, along East Coast Road; and not too long ago an outlet was opened in the new Outram Community Hospital.

The location strategy of Starbucks is a subject of interest to many people. There are even data scientists who will analyse Starbucks store locations and how they map to census demographics. In Singapore we can find Starbucks in malls as well as in many unique and interesting locations – such as by the sea in East Coast Park and right next to the Digital Light Canvas at Marina Bay Sands.

Starbucks Katong

A new Starbucks outlet has just opened in the old Joo Chiat Police Station, which is one of the old buildings conserved as part of the development known as Katong Square. The coffee shop took over the space last occupied by Goldleaf Restaurant, which has moved to another part of Katong Square.

Starbucks Katong is quite spacious. The interior design is simple – using colourful art pieces and geometric motifs to create a cheerful environment.

Besides coffee and beverages, Starbucks food menu now offers quite a wide range of items including Impossible™ Pasta Salad Bowl, Impossible™ Pie & Wrap. We tried one of the breakfast items – Chicken Ham, Egg White & Tomato Wholemeal Bagel. It was not bad at all.

Starbucks Outram

Another Starbucks outlet in a unusual location is Starbucks Outram Community Hospital (OCH).

Located on the road level of the recently opened community hospital, the cafe is spacious and its earth tones colour scheme helps to create a calming relaxed atmosphere.

We are not trying to encourage you visit Starbucks Outram Community Hospital but if you have good reasons to visit the SGH Campus and need a quite place for a cup of coffee, you will Starbucks Outram to be a very pleasant oasis of calm.

The new Stabucks outlet in OCH is also one of the nicest places in the SGH Campus for a light meal. We found their Egg White, Roasted Pepper, Mushroom & Cheddar Wrap to be a healthy and delectable option.

For something cold, the cold brew coffee will be a good booster shot. There are also exciting variations like the Nitro Cold Brew, which can taste like stout.
