boCHINche Restaurant Review: Hearty Weekend Brunch at Amoy Street

Bochinche Restaurant on Amoy Street is a unique restaurant in Singapore that serves Argentinian dishes. We don’t know of any other Argentinian restaurant in Singapore. It also has a beautiful interior and a huge dragon and fish mural on the exterior.

Bochinche Restaurant Amoy Street Review

Bochinche Restaurant has been at the Amoy Street location for a few years. They were formerly at Martin Road where the restaurant decor was quite different and, in our opinion, even more impressive. We said in our post on our visit to the previous location that we don’t know much about Argentina apart from the late Maradona, Messi and Evita. It is still the case. So it was still an adventure to visit Bochinche at Amoy St to try to discover what is Argentinian food.

The restaurant seems smaller than than the old place. The decor is more colourful and vibrant, with a traditional country atmosphere.

Bochinche Restaurant Menu

We were at Bochinche for lunch on a weekend when a brunch menu was also available. Here are pictures of some sample portions of the food menu and wine list. The latter features mostly Argentinian wines with some international labels.

Some of the wines were available by the glass or 375 ml carafe (half bottle). We picked a carafe of French white wine by Chateau du Cedre ($45). It was a light and refreshing white wine. The carafe size is convenient as it works out to almost two glasses per person which is perfect for lunch and without getting in trouble for driving.

The Food

Being uncertain of the way the food would be prepared and the portion size, we ordered two dishes for a start – a “Desayuno de verduras” ($32) from the brunch menu and an Argentinian ribeye steak ($60).

Bochinche Restaurant Amoy Street Review

The Desayuno de verduras (picture below) was described in the menu as a dish containing sourdough, tomato, polenta, asparagus, avocado, mushroom, spinach & chili jam. We did know it at that time that “desayuno de verduras” means vegetable breakfast (according to Google translate). It was a huge platter of food that looked beautiful as well. It came with a choice of eggs and we selected scramble eggs.

By contrast, the ribeye steak (picture below) looked very lonesome on the plate. Our random selection turned out to be a useful combination since we were going to share our food. The plain piece of steak combined with the generous amount of vegetables, egg and bread became a more than adequate meal for two. We were glad we did not order any other dishes or sides to go with the steak. In terms of taste they were both good and it was an enjoyable and hearty brunch, but we are not sure if we detected any distinctive Argentinian quality about them.
