Enjoy Eating House and Bar is a restobar in the vintage Kam Leng Hotel in Jalan Besar. It serves affordable Singapore dishes.

Kam Leng Hotel

Enjoy Eating House and Bar has an outlet in Mercure on Stevens and one in the rather intriguing Kam Leng Hotel. According to the hotel’s website, “Kam Leng hotel was first established in 1927 by a mysterious owner whose identity remains unknown till today”. It had a 4th floor restaurant which was helmed at various points by the “4 heavenly kings” of local cuisine. The hotel was abandoned for quite a number of years until it reopened as a contemporary boutique hotel in 2012.

Located on the ground floor of Kam Leng Hotel is Enjoy Eating House and Bar @ Jalan Besar. The look of the restobar is definitely designed to evoke nostalgia. The place has rustic and gritty feel; whether that was intended we are not sure.

There are a few bar tables out in the five foot way. The furniture in the small narrow space inside is basic and functional.

In keeping with the trend of adding fusion, or ModSin, dishes to the menu, the restaurant also has Foie Gras with Truffled Sous Vide Eggs, Black Angus Beef Tenderloin with Foie Gras, BBQ Pork Cheek with Isaan-inspired sauce and Chendol Panna Cotta.

Dinner at Enjoy Eating House and Bar

We went to Enjoy Eating House and Bar for dinner and ordered Peranakan Bakwan Kepiting Soup ($8), Har Jeong Kai Wings ($14) and Hakka Steamed Tofu ($14) with plain steamed rice.

Peranakan Bakwan Kepiting Soup and Har Jeong Kai Wings

We liked all the dishes. The Har Jeong Kai had the nice aroma of prawn paste. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The wings were not too greasy.

Enjoy: Har Jeong Kai Wings

The Bakwan Kepiting Soup exceeded our expectation. The meat balls made from minced pork and crab meat and bamboo shoots had nice flavours and texture. There was a rather generous amount of crab meat in the meat balls. The broth was lightly flavoured but very appetising.

The best dish was Hakka Steamed Tofu. Silky smooth bean curd in a light soy sauce was topped with minced pork, crabmeat, prawn and mushrooms, with tobiko added for luxury. It was a light but very delightful dish.

Enjoyable Food

We are not a big fan of the decor and atmosphere of Enjoy Eating House and Bar @ Jalan Besar. However, the food we tried were enjoyable. The menu is fairly extensive and prices are reasonable. We would visit the restobar at Jalan Besar again to try other dishes or maybe we will try out their outlet in Stevens Road.
