I was attracted to try Cafe O IMM outlet by the interesting decor of the place. The $6.20 Prata Meal provided an extra incentive to patronize them. Cafe O is one of the brands of the Soup Kitchen group. There are now two outlets – the other one is in Raffles Medical Centre, Holland Village.
Located on the ground level of IMM outlet mall in Jurong East, Cafe O IMM is unlike other comparable local food and coffee shop eateries such as Toast Box or Ya Kun. Some effort had been spent to do up the place to resemble a retro Singapore coffee shop. The coffee shop chairs and rusty corrugated metal sheets look the part.
I don’t remember coffee shops of old having Chinese screens as nice as these, but they seem to combine well to create a cosy place for a quick meal or coffee break in IMM. The place gave me a ’70s Beauty World vide. Imagine the song 往事只能回味 being played in the background and you will know what I mean.
Cafe O IMM Menu
There was really no need to eat anything, but I had some time to kill and so I studied the menu anyway. It contains local all day dining favourites like nasi lemak, briyani, laksa and roti prata. I selected the $6.20 Prata Meal.
The Prata Meal
The Cafe O Prata Meal consist of a cup of coffee and two pieces of prata, one ‘kosong’ and one egg prata, accompanied by some curry.
The prata was freshly made and pretty decent. If one wishes to be critical, they could be lighter and more fluffy, and with a crispier surface. But for a quick bite, I would be happy to eat these any day.
Another poster in the cafe showcased the $25.80 fish head curry. This sounds like a project for a next visit to IMM mall.
