Parched by Parchmen is a cafe in the Ubi industrial estate where there are many car showrooms and automotive related businesses. Located at the lobby of Aspial One, Parched Cafe is a cool oasis for artisanal coffee, quality tea and light bites.
Aspial One
Aspial One is a commercial property located at 55, Ubi Avenue 3, just opposite the Cycle & Carriage showroom and service centre. The building is the headquarters of Aspial Corporation, which owns brands such as Lee Hwa Jewellery, Goldheart Jewelry and Niessing as well as World Class Land and Maxi-Cash.
On the ground floor of the building, there are several eateries.
Parched Cafe
Parched by Parchmen is run by the team behind pet-friendly Sun Ray Cafe. Another cafe in the group is Pacto by Parchmen (忆缘) in Jalan Besar Community Centre. Parchmen & Co ( 百茶门) is a specialty coffee roaster which also supplies quality tea and wines.
Parched Cafe in Aspial One occupies part of the spacious lobby of the Aspial Headquarters building. The interior design is stylish with a sense of harmony, balance and tranquility. A sleek white counter with an impressive coffee machine is the only indication that there is an eatery there.
Menu of Parched Cafe
The Menu of Parched by Parchmen is fairly simple and straightforward. There are coffee, tea and chocolate – both hot and cold. A selection of cakes, tarts, quiche and sandwiches are on display at the counter.
Light Bites at Parched by Parchmen
We visited Parched by Parchmen recently and had a Truffle Egg Mayo Sandwich ($5) and a Tuna Croissant ($6) with some coffee – black ($3) and white ($4).
The Tuna Croissant was served with salad on the side. The presentation made the item commonly found in quick-service sandwich chains looked pleasing. The taste was as good as the presentation. The crescent-shaped French pastry was buttery and crispy. The generous filling of tuna, mayonnaise and other ingredients was light and creamy. The tuna croissant of Parched Cafe was a simple satisfying dish.
The Truffle Egg Mayo Sandwich was about what we had expected. The truffle oil made a significant difference to the basic egg salad without being overpowering. It was quite an enjoyable sandwich which included the food groups of carbohydrates, proteins and vegetables in a variety of colours. A simple inexpensive complete meal.
Each cup of carefully brewed coffee coffee at Parched Cafe was good – well balanced and smooth but with enough kick to satisfy caffeine craving.
We also tried their Matcha Roll ($3.50) and Golden Tippy Yunnan Red Tea ($5). The matcha roll was served cold, almost icy. It was not too sweet and the sponge cake was soft and fluffy.
The Yunnan Red Tea had a golden orange colour. It had a nice fragrance and left a slightly fruity aftertaste. Pouring the tea into the delicate tea cup and sipping from it had a calming effect – the cares of the world could be forgotten for a while.
Cool Oasis
Parched by Parchmen is a cool oasis in the Ubi industrial estate. The cafe is stylish and comfortable. It is a perfect spot to spend an hour or so when you send your car maintenance with the 60-minute or 90-minute Guaranteed Express Service at Cycle & Carriage. If you are shocked by astronomical prices after visiting the car showrooms in Ubi, a cup of calming tea at Parched may be a good antidote. For those of us who can’t afford a car, we can still afford the very reasonable prices of artisan coffee and premium quality tea at Parched Cafe.
