Summer Pavilion Singapore at Ritz Carlton is one of the rare Michelin Star Chinese restaurants in Singapore. We usually have dim sum when we go there for lunch. But we decided to try their $88++ Orchid Lunch menu recently.
Ritz Carlton’s Summer Pavilion Singapore has a one Michelin Star distinction in the 2021 Singapore Michelin Guide. They have retained this status over the last few years. With only a handful of Chinese restaurants in Singapore having the coveted star status, this arguably makes it one of the best Chinese restaurants in Singapore. As described in our previous posts on this restaurant, the ambience is calm and peaceful. Service was top notch as usual on this visit.
Summer Pavilion Singapore – Orchid Lunch Menu
There are a few types of lunch and dinner menus at Summer Pavilion Singapore. The Orchid Lunch menu is one of the most affordable. We used to think that the $88++ lunch was quite expensive. But the prices at many other restaurants have steadily crept up. Perhaps we have become numb to the pain – we thought that $88 for a 5 course meal at a one Michelin star restaurant in Singapore sounds reasonable.
Except for the starter and dessert (which has only one option each), there are two choices for each of the other courses. We opted for different choices wherever available to experience all the dishes available on the Orchid menu.
Starter: Dim Sum Delights
Our lunch started off with a trio of dim sum items. The two at each end of the plate were quite unexciting. The star of this trio was the one in the middle which also has a long name : “Poached Prawn Dumpling, Chicken, Chinese Cabbage, Preserved Vegetable, Black Vinegar, Chilli Padi“. As you can imagine it was a wonderful dim sum with all flavours of all those ingredients. Thankfully the chilli was very mild and did not dominate the taste.
Second Course: Choice of Soups
Our second course at the Summer Pavilion Singapore lunch was soup. There were two choices: “Doubled Boiled Sea Whelk Soup, Soaked Nostoc Algae, Chicken, Served in Whole Coconut” and “Braised Bird’s Nest Soup“.
We were equally happy with both kinds of soup but they had different personalities. The double boiled soup in coconut had a light clear taste while the birds nest soup was thick and heavy. Both had rich flavours and we felt healthy by drinking them.
Third Course : Choice of Fish / Meat
The options for our third course were: “Baked Sea Perch, Hoi Sin Sauce” (left picture below) and “Smoked Barbecued Iberico Pork, Honey Sauce“. We were satisfied with both dishes but our slight preference goes to the fish as the pork had a fair bit of fatty parts.
Summer Pavilion Singapore Lunch: Main Course
For main course, there was a choice of “Steamed Vermicelli, Fresh Prawn, Egg White, Lobster Broth” and “Steamed Glutinous Rice, Fresh Prawn, Wrapped in Lotus Leaf“. The star of these dishes were the fresh prawns which were some of the best we have eaten in recent times. The prawns had been grilled and produced a smoky grilled seafood taste. The glutinous rice version was our preferred version as the purity of the prawn taste was more pronounced.
Dessert
Dessert was Chilled Aloe Vera, Kiwi, Strawberry, Lime Juice, a very simple dessert that brought our Summer Pavilion Singapore lunch to a cool end.
