Chimichanga is a new Mexican restaurant bar at Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ) serving dishes such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas as well as hand-crafted cocktails and freshly brewed beer on tap.
Chimichanga Paya Lebar Quarter
Following the success of Chimichanga Little India, Chimichanga Holland Village was launched in Holland
Piazza Mall. Chimichanga goes East with a new outlet in PLQ.
The Mexican restaurant bar is on the ground level of PLQ Mall facing the plaza. There are a few tables and a bar counter in the small air-conditioned dining space. There are, however, ample seating out in the sheltered naturally ventilated plaza.
Menu of Chimichanga Paya Lebar
The food menu and drink menu can be viewed on Chimichanga’s website. Though not very extensive, the food menu is sufficiently varied. Besides tacos and burritos, steak, cheeseburger and lamb cutlets as well as a few side dishes are available. The drinks menu offers a wide range of cocktails, beers, wines and spirits, including tequila shots of course.
Below is a picture of the food menu of Chimichanga Paya Lebar.
Taco & Carne Asada Bowl at Chimichanga PLQ
We ordered the Chipotle Chicken Taco ($16) & Carne Asada Bowl ($18) when we visited Chimichanga PLQ.
The Carne Asada Bowl looked very good on the menu. When it arrived, the look was a bit of a letdown. Fortunately, the dish fared better in the taste department. The skirt steak strips had been well-marinated. The charred beef was tender and had a smokey flavour. The salad had the typical sweet, slightly spicy and tangy flavours you would expect of Mexican dishes.
The Chipotle Chicken Taco was a better looking dish. The tender pieces of chicken were well coated with a creamy sauce that was tangy, slightly spicy and peppery. Thin soft shell tacos were used, which did not provide a contrasting texture for the dish.
Casual eat-with-your-hands kind of place
The Carne Asada Bowl was served with just one spoon and no utensils were provided for the Chipotle Chicken Taco. So we guess that Chimichanga Paya Lebar is meant to be a casual eat-with-your-hands kind of place. Probably not a place to go for a first date or just after you have your nail art done. It may be a great spot for a rowdy group gathering where the food is secondary to the drinks. Nevertheless, if you want reasonably priced Mexican food in Paya Lebar, then going to Chimichanga PLQ will not be a bad option. Just remember not to schedule your nail salon appointment before the meal.
