A new dining concept by the brand owners of Awfully Chocolate and Sinpopo Brand, Supperman Speakeasy & Grill in Joo Chiat serves the evening crowd with delicious flame-grilled meats and curated wines and cocktails.
New in Joo Chiat
The new Supperman Speakeasy & Grill takes over the conserved shophouses at 458 Joo Chiat Road, previously occupied by Sinpopo Brand Restaurant. The collapsible metal gate, floor tiles and certain sections of the walls from the Sinpopo days had been retained. Updates to the interior design give the premises a retro style bar look.
The new restaurant bar is a casual relaxed place. There are three main sections in Supperman Speakeasy & Grill. The bar occupies the front portion of one of the two shophouses. The front of the other shophouse is a naturally ventilated dining area. That section has the atmosphere of the front court of a heritage house. Diners seated there get a good view of the human and vehicular traffic outside. The air-conditioned dining area is hidden at the rear.
Menu of Supperman Speakeasy & Grill
The food menu of Supperman Speakeasy & Grill is simple and straightforward. The mains comprise Angus beef, chicken, lamb, seabass and crayfish. There are a few starters and sides. Some of the dishes are meant to be shared. There is a beverages menu and there is a separate wine list.
Below are pictures of the food menu and beverages menu.
Beef & Spinach at Supperman
Supperman at Joo Chiat opened in November 2022. We visited it last weekend and tried the Angus Top Blade ($32) and Creamed Baby Spinach ($14).
The serving portions were slightly on the generous side. Each of the two dishes could be shared by 2 persons, or even 3 if a portion of bread or rice was added.
The baby spinach was cooked with chilli and garlic and topped with coddled eggs and grated cheese. The vegetables were soft and creamy. It was an interesting way to enjoy spinach.
The Angus Top Blade was sliced and neatly lined up on a grey stone slab and drizzled with chimichurri, a herb sauce, and topped with grilled corn. It looked quite attractive. The taste did not disappoint. The grilled beef, with nice charred bits, was tender and juicy. Every element of the dish combined well to give a delightful mix of flavours. We enjoyed the dish.
We did not have any cocktails or alcoholic beverages at the speakeasy. The iced coffee ($6) was served in a small cup that made it look like a fancy cocktail. It was a refreshing iced beverage.
A nice supper spot
Many of the cafes along Joo Chiat Road do not open in the evening. Supperman Speakeasy & Grill fills the gap. It is a nice casual spot for a good dinner or supper. It is also a relaxing place for drinks in the evening.
