Baker & Cook South Buona Vista & Plank Sourdough Pizza

Baker & Cook South Buona Vista is a cosy cafe in a quiet neighbourhood which was once best known for the famous Teochew Boneless Duck Rice Stall. You won’t find Teochew duck at Baker & Cook but you will get a variety of brunch food, cakes, pastries and good coffee.

While there is a surfeit of cafes in the city and suburban hubs like Tiong Bahru and Joo Chiat, it can be quite hard to find a nice cafe in certain neighbourhoods. Pasir Panjang may be one neighbourhood where more cafes will be welcome.

Located at the corner of the row of shophouses at the foot of South Buona Vista Road, Baker & Cook will please residents and visitors with a wide array of breads, bagels, pastries and cakes and brunch options. Its sister company Plank is co-located on the same premises and offers sourdough pizzas.

Plank and Baker & Cook have outlets in various locations in Singapore including in Dempsey and Siglap. Though each of the outlets is distinct, there are common design elements in the interior decorations of all of them. The Baker & Cook in the rustic part of South Buona Vista has a relaxed charm. The cosy dining space incorporates the black & white theme of Baker & Cook and the colourful wooden planks motif of Plank. There are outdoor sitting areas which should be easy snug spots when the day is cool.

The Baker & Cook Menu is fairly straightforward. There are the standard brunch items like Eggs Benedict and Avo Smash. There are also bagels, quiche, pies and salad. Below are screenshots of the menu of Baker & Cook.

Brunch at Baker & Cook

We visited Baker & Cook in South Buona Vista for brunch recently. We had a very refreshing cold-pressed juice ($7.20) and flat white ($5.70) to perk us up. The coffee was rich and smooth – very nice.

We ordered the Eggs Benedict with Crispy Bacon ($19.50) and French Toast ($18.90) for our brunch.

The Eggs Benedict did not have amazing looks but the taste did not disappoint. The classic breakfast dish of poached eggs and hollandaise was hearty and tasty.

The French Toast was brioche cooked with cinnamon custard and served with berries and nuts. It did not look as dressed up as the French Toast seen in some other cafes. However, the Baker & Cook dish did its job more than satisfactorily. It was soft, warm and delicious. The berries and pistachio nuts provided an interesting mix of textures and flavours.

Neighbourhood cafe for breakfast or brunch

Baker & Cook South Buona Vista is an artisan bakery & cafe that opens early in the morning. It is a great neighbourhood bakery cafe for breakfast or brunch as well as good coffee and cakes at any time of the day. With Plank located on the same premises, the place is also a relaxed spot for a good meal of pizza and pasta.
