Sol & Luna, Latin for ‘Sun & Moon’, is a bistro perched high up in the Green Oasis on Level 17 of CapitaSpring. It offers Latin-European flavours day and night without sky high prices.
Green Oasis at CapitaSpring
CapitaSpring in Market Street is a development on the site where the Food Centre at Golden Shoe Car Park was located. The 51 storey building features a Green Oasis with a height of more than 35 metres, taking up Level 17 to 20 of the downtown skyscraper.
Sol & Luna is nestled in the Green Oasis and has an alfresco terrace with views of the city skyline. Choose the right nook and you will be rewarded with the scenic view of the Singapore River and the iconic Padang.
The use of natural light, warm colours and plush seating creates a relaxed and inviting atmosphere in the bar and dining hall. While the interior is not large, the tables are spaced out fairly comfortably.
Menu of Sol & Luna
Sol & Luna offers Latin-European dishes showcasing the cuisines of Italy, France, Portugal and Spain. Prawn & Octopus Niçoise Salad, Baked Veal Shank Pie, Grilled Iberico Pork Pluma, Truffle Risotto and Panna Cotta are some of the items you can expect to find on the menu of Sol & Luna.
There is a brunch menu for the weekend and a lunch set menu on weekdays. Below is a picture of the Lunch Set Menu for February 2024.
The Sol & Luna Set Lunch is available from Monday to Friday, 11 am to 2.30 pm. The 2-course set is priced at $42++, and the 3-course $48++. There are options for each of the starter, main course and dessert sections. Additional payments are required for some choices.
Appetisers
We opted for the Mushroom Soup and Beef Bresaola for the first course of the 3-course set lunch.
The cream of mushroom soup was rich and thick. It had a nice aroma and a luxurious mouthfeel.
We rather enjoyed the Beef Bresaola. Thin slices of air-dried salted beef were topped with tomatoes, onions and cheese. There were different textures and a complex mix of savoury, sweet and tangy notes.
Main Courses
The Grilled Seabass was served with couscous, salad and tomato relish. The fish had fresh tasting flaky meat. The salad and tangy relish gave the dish a refreshing Mediterranean flavour.
The Grilled Pork Cutlet sounded rather boring and looked dull when it was served. A large piece of chargrilled pork sat on a bed of mustard mashed potato, accompanied by pickled cabbage and braised fennel. It turned out to be the outstanding dish of the lunch. The pork had a nice smokiness and was tender and juicy. It had bits of fats which somehow made the meat even more enjoyable. The tangy pickled cabbage and braised fennel introduced contrasting flavour profiles, further elevating the dish. Overall, it was a hearty and delightful main course.
Desserts
In contrast to the often miniscule desserts offered at lunch sets in other restaurants, Sol & Luna served sizeable portions of our chosen sweet treats: the Burnt Cheesecake and the Chocolate Praline Cake.
The cheesecake was rich and luscious. We liked it because it was not overly sweet. The chocolate praline cake on the other hand had a satisfying sweetness and would please any chocolate aficionado. Both desserts were delightful.
Good Value Lunch at Sol & Luna
Sol & Luna show that sophisticated CBD lunches need not mean a hefty price tag. Their delightful 3-course set menu satisfies with delectable food and hearty portions. The lunch experience was complemented by professional service and the pleasant setting of CapitaSpring’s Green Oasis. Such good value options allow an ordinary patron without a fat expense account to occasionally indulge in a sumptuous, cosmopolitan CBD lunch.
