Birds of Paradise Holland Village – New Trendy Gelato Boutique

Birds of Paradise Holland Village is the latest outlet of the popular ice-cream shop which has been spreading its wings all over Singapore. We stopped not only to sample a few of their flavours but also to admire the decor.

Gelato Meets Kyoto Rock Garden

The interior designer of the new Birds of Paradise Holland Village is a genius. This BOP outlet has no chairs or tables. Curved steps punctuated by big rocks (that will not out of place in a Japanese rock garden) are all that is available. But it works, the customers including ourselves were comfortable enjoying their ice-cream on these steps. Beautiful and (probably) low maintenance!

These are not ordinary concrete steps, but seem to be well-made platforms coated with some form of resin or epoxy finish to produce a nice matt surface that is gentle to the touch.

The Birds of Paradise Cones

Like in other outlets, the new Holland Village ice cream outlet also serves freshly made signature ice cream cones. The smell itself made us want to enter this cafe.

Birds of Paradise Holland Village Gelato Boutique

This is the 6th BOP Gelato Boutique. They have come a long way since they opened first one in 2016 at Katong – read our post Beautiful Birds of Paradise at The Red House. Currently their other outlets are spread out in places such as Jewel Changi Airport, Mandai Zoo and Craig Road.

Birds of paradise gelato are made using natural and botanical ingredients – so expect flavours made from fruits, flowers, pods, herbs, and spices.

Prices of Gelato and Flavours

Prices start from $5.50 for a single scoop for cup and $6.80 for cone. A few selected flavours cost an extra $1 per scoop. Takeaway in pint sizes are also available

These are the two flavours that we tried that day: pistachio and roasted sesame. Pistachio is a premium flavour and costs extra, but it pays back with a very rich buttery flavour. Roasted sesame has a pale look from which we thought would have a weak taste. But we were pleasantly surprised by its rather robust flavour. We would not have thought sesame would be a good flavour for ice cream. The roasted must have added some smokey tone which made it more interesting.
