The simplicity and quality of ingredients, combined with the traditional preparation methods, make Neapolitan pizza a popular dish. Extra Virgin Pizza, a Singapore brand, brings authentic Neapolitan-style pizza to the local dining scene. Its second outlet opens recently in One Holland Village.
Neapolitan-style pizza
Naples, Italy is considered the birthplace of the pizza. There is an Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) which sets strict guidelines for ingredients and preparation methods to maintain authenticity Neapolitan pizza.
Extra Virgin Pizza makes artisanal Neapolitan-style pizza using fresh ingredients and flour from AVPN approved supplier Caputo, who has been milling flour since 1924.
The new pizza restaurant of Extra Virgin Pizza is located on the ground level of One Holland Village. There is quite a large dining section out in the naturally ventilated patio. Inside, the bar is the focal point, surrounded by a mix of seating options to suit all party sizes. There are cosy booths, bench seating as well as high stools. The interior has a stylish yet relaxed feel, with a clever blend of materials and pops of colour.
Extra Virgin Pizza Menu
The menu of Extra Virgin Pizza is simple but interesting. The Pizzas are divided into “Red” and “White”. The menu also offers pasta and dishes such as oven fried clams and crispy calamaris. Below are pictures of the menu. The digital menu can be viewed on the restaurant’s website.
Light Lunch at Extra Virgin Pizza
On a recent visit to One Holland Village, we decided to have a quick lunch at Extra Virgin Pizza. We opted for the classic Margherita Pizza ($25) and a side of Crispy Smashed Potato ($12).
The Crispy Smashed Potato was a delectable treat that combined the comfort of mashed potatoes with the delightful crunch of a golden-brown crust. It was a great side dish that would also be a very enjoyable snack or appetiser.
The Margherita pizza was a rather substantial offering that could easily be shared by two with modest appetite. Its appearance was simple, but it was visually appealing. The toppings were a classic combination: tomatoes, fresh basil, fior di latte (a type of fresh mozzarella cheese made from cow’s milk), and of course extra virgin olive oil. The melted cheese complemented the vibrant red of the tomatoes and the green leaves. The crust was soft and slightly chewy, with puffed and charred edges. The contrasting textures and the harmonious blend of flavours made for a satisfying pizza.
Good Food
Extra Virgin Pizza offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, great for a casual dining experience. The food is good – we liked both items we tried. While the prices are on the higher side, it is worth considering for a special occasion or when you are craving for an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza.
