Our visit to Casa Vostra Raffles City was in August 2024, quite soon after its opening. It is a popular restaurant and we were among many folks like us, drawn to the new Italian restaurant which offers a lower price point than its sister restaurant, La Bottega Enoteca, which opened to great acclaim in Joo Chiat a few years ago.
New Italian Restaurant at Raffles City
La Bottega Enoteca’s new sister restaurant is located on the ground floor of Raffles City. It is situated right next to the escalators that link the building to City Hall MRT station in the basement. MacDonald’s used to occupy this space which has both an indoor seating area and an alfresco area outside as well.
According to the Casa Vostra website, Chef Antonio began his culinary enterprise by serving out of his home kitchen, a private dining concept known as Casa Nostra. Then he opened Italian restaurant La Bottega Enoteca which was placed 19th in the 50 Top Pizza awards for the Asia Pacific region. Chef-owner Antonio, who came to Singapore as a software engineer, was ranked 57th in the Top 100 Best Pizza Chef awards, making him one of the best pizza chefs in the world!
A Beautiful But Crowded House at Raffles City
This was the queue to get in at the time of our visit. It is now more than a month after opening, so I am not sure about the current crowd situation.
These are pictures of the new Casa Vostra Raffles City restaurant before the crowds entered. It is certainly a tastefully done up place. But some tables are quite close together. With a long narrow space with mostly hard surfaces, the room acoustics amplified the sounds of the diners. It got quite loud at some points of our lunch. There is a mix of small tables and larger communal tables.
Here are pictures of the full house once the lunch got into full swing. Every seat was taken including the counter seats.
Casa Vostra Raffles City Menu
Pizzas take centre stage in the Casa Vostra Raffles City menu. Antipasti, pasta and a few desserts complete the food selection. We decided to try a pasta and a pizza, earmarked as “signature” dishes on the menu.
Pasta
Our choice of pasta was Agnolotti del Plin ($28). On the menu, it is described as “pasta filled with pork stew,
in a chicken jus and butter sauce”. This was a delicious pasta with the chewy pasta combining well with the sauce and toppings. In terms of taste, we think it deserves its status as the signature pasta dish. But we thought that the portion size was rather small, more like an appetiser than a main.
Casa Vostra Raffles City Pizza
With so many pizza choices on the menu, it was not easy to land on one. The easy way out was to pick the one with the signature dish symbol – the “Gamberi” ($28). This pizza was prepared with Argentinian prawns, San Marzano DOP, prawn reduction, lemon zest, Parmigiano.
The crust was quite substantial with some portions severely burnt. Other than that we found the crust to have a nice flavour and texture. The prawns used were of a high quality and the rest of the toppings combined made this a unique and memorable pizza. Overall, the food at Casa Vostra Raffles City was good and enjoyable.
