Tucked away in an old shophouse along bustling Changi Road, Bagus Yong Tau Fu has been a local favourite for years, offering hearty bowls of Yong Tau Fu (YTF) at affordable prices. This unassuming eatery has carved a niche for itself with its delicious and diverse YTF offerings, and its MUIS certification as a halal-certified eating establishment.
Bagus in Changi
Bagus Yong Tau Fu is a no-frills establishment. It is like a typical Singapore coffeeshop, but with air-conditioning. Do not expect fancy decor or a luxurious ambience. The interior is functional and straightforward. You get a comfortable place to enjoy your food.
Like most typical yong tau fu stalls, Bagus is a self-service establishment. There is a display shelf where various items are showcased. You choose the items you want from the shelf and then approach the staff to specify the type of noodles you prefer, whether you want your yong tau fu dry or with soup, and the kind of soup or gravy you would like. After paying for your selection, your order will be prepared, and you can collect your piping hot, freshly cooked yong tau fu when it is ready.
Wide Selection
Bagus Yong Tau Fu offers a variety of Yong Tau Fu (YTF) styles, including Ampang, Hot & Spicy, Tom Yum, and Black Soy Sauce La Mian. It offers a wide selection of ingredients for your YTF, such as fish balls, sausages, wantons, tofu, mushrooms and deep-fried items. Enjoy your YTF with clear soup, tom yum soup, laksa broth, or Hakka gravy. Or try the dry version and add your own sauce.
Additionally, Bagus offers a range of side dishes, such as You Tiao stuffed with Sotong Paste, as well as other items like Chicken Hor Fun and Chicken Rice. Beverages are available at coffeeshop prices.
Simple Good Meal at Bagus
During our recent visit, we opted for two bowls of dry YTF, one with bee hoon and the other with la mian. A bowl of 7 items would cost $5.50, plus $1.20 for la mian.
Both dishes were enjoyable and satisfyingly filling. Everything that was meant to be soft was cooked to perfection -not soggy, but with just the right amount of bite. The deep-fried items provided a satisfying crunch, while the fresh vegetables and succulent mushrooms added crispness and texture. The accompanying clear soup, infused with soya beans, was tasty and comforting. Overall, it was a simple good meal.
Halal Yong Tau Fu in Various Styles
Bagus Yong Tau Fu is one of the top destinations in Singapore for authentic halal yong tau fu. The popular local dish is offered in various styles. It is ideal perfect for anyone desiring a simple, comforting bowl of yong tau fu with family or friends, or even for when dining solo. While the ambience may be unremarkable, it is a pleasant spot for those seeking a good reasonably priced meal – sedap and bagus.
