Sinpopo Coffee is known for its delectable cakes and authentic Singaporean kuehs. It has expanded its menu to include a new range of Singapore style grilled sandwiches. This addition and the early morning opening of Sinpopo Coffee Scotts Square mean there is a new interesting breakfast or lunch option in the Orchard Road shopping belt.
Sinpopo Coffee at Scotts Square
Sinpopo Brand is an offshoot of the local Awfully Chocolate Group. There is a Sinpopo Brand Cafe in Tangs and several Sinpopo Coffee outlets in locations like Funan Mall and Tampines 1. The new Sinpopo Coffee Scotts Square started operations in early 2024.
Sinpopo Coffee at Scotts Square is located on the ground floor atrium of the mall. It is an open space with low partitions, designed to create a warm welcoming dining space while allowing patrons to soak in the sights and sounds of the mall.
Menu of Sinpopo Coffee
Sinpopo Coffee is essentially a place for coffee and tea, to be enjoyed with cakes or kuehs which are temptingly displayed at the counter. Besides Italian expresso, there are very Singaporean concoctions like Chendol Latte and Sinpopo Teh Tarik.
The kuehs on offer include their signature Kueh Sarlat and Kueh Dar Dar. Blackforest Cake, Kaya Cake and Pulut Hitam Cake are included in the range of delightful cakes that will tempt all those with sweet tooths walking through the Scotts Square atrium.
There are now savoury grilled sandwiches available at Sinpopo Coffee. These soft buns with a variety of fillings are reasonably priced from $8 to $13.
Till end of September 2024, guests get coffee free with an order of a sandwich.
Light Lunch at Sinpopo Coffee
The poster announcing Sinpopo’s Singapore Style Grilled Sandwich attracted our attention, so we decided to have our lunch at Sinpopo Coffee Scotts Square. We ordered the Smashed Egg & Salty Butter Sandwich ($10) and the Corned Beef, Chilli & Onion Sandwich ($13), plus a black coffee and a flat while. No GST nor service charge would be added to the bill.
The cafe is a self service establishment. You order and pay at the counter and collect your food and drinks from the collection point.
The buns were nicely grilled, resulting in a crispy exterior and a warm inviting interior. The corned beef filling had a rich savoury flavour with a hint of smokiness, while the chili and onion added depth and complexity.
The egg mayo filling had a hidden surprise – a thick slab of butter, which provided a rich, creamy experience for the palate. A simple egg mayo sandwich was transformed by that slice of butter into an indulgent treat that felt both luxurious and comforting.
Putu Piring Cake
We succumb to temptation and asked for a slice of Putu Piring Cake ($9.50) even though we had resolved to have a light lunch. Sinpopo used to serve cakes in demure slices but now the size of the slices have increased along with the prices.
The Putu Piring Cake was very good. It was a soft moist cake with sweet gula melaka and savoury grated coconut. A simple combination that worked very well. We enjoyed the cake.
The coffee at Sinpopo Coffee were, as usual, strong and rich.
Convenient Spot
One of the standout features of Sinpopo Coffee in Scotts Square is its early opening hours. Starting at 8 am, the cafe is an ideal spot for a quick and satisfying breakfast before a busy day. The new range of grilled sandwiches makes it an even more appealing dining destination. Guests staying at nearby hotels can enjoy a leisurely meal at Sinpopo Coffee instead of opting for the often crowded hotel breakfast buffets. Whether you are a visitor or a local seeking good coffee, something sweet, or a light meal in the Orchard Road shopping belt, Sinpopo Coffee in Scotts Square is a good and convenient option.
