There is something new at IKEA Alexandra. The IKEA Alexandra Bistro and Food Market was completed recently. In addition to hot dogs and ice cream, more ready to eat food such as curry puff and chicken skewers are offered to hungry shoppers. Here are some of the highlights at the new ‘IKEA “minimart’.
IKEA Restaurant vs IKEA Bistro
The new IKEA Bistro is not to be confused with the IKEA Restaurant. The popular IKEA restaurant on level 2 is a proper restaurant with tables and chairs serving cooked meals and usually packed at lunchtime. The new IKEA Alexandra Bistro on level one is a new and improved version of the old hot dog stand. It seems like this Bistro is meant for folks to eat quickly or to take away. The dining area has been enlarged with the addition of some high tables (for stand-up eating) and some benches (for eating without tables).
The queue for $1 hot dogs can be long at peak hours. The human traffic flow has been improved after the IKEA renovations.
IKEA Alexandra Bistro Menu
What to eat at the new IKEA Alexandra Bistro? The food choices have increased, but not by much. In addition to the famous $1 IKEA hot dog and 50 cents ice cream, there are now IKEA Curry puffs, cheese sticks and chicken skewers.
Here are pictures of the IKEA Alexandra Bistro menu.
New IKEA Alexandra Bakery
More food options are available from the adjoining new IKEA Bakery section.
Here are pictures of some of the baked goods available – $2.50 muffins, 90 cent croissants and $2 donuts.
We tried a muffin – it was quite small and the taste was not bad
IKEA Swedish Food Market
The range of items at the Swedish Food Market section has been expanded. This place now resembles a small supermarket.
IKEA Hot Dogs at Home
The classic hot dogs can now be enjoyed in the comfort of your home. Frozen hot dogs and hot dog buns are for sale in bundles of five pieces. Ketchup and mustard can be bought separatly or in combo sets.
Coffee, ground or beans, are available in different types to suit differing brewing methods.
Snacks are plentiful at IKEA Alexandra Bistro and Food Market. These jams also look interesting and provide a change from the usual supermarket brands.
Frozen Food at IKEA Alexandra
We were also attracted to the frozen food chiller at IKEA Alexandra.
Mostly seafood items – peeled prawns, whole crayfish and various salmon options to cook at home.
Frozen meatballs to re-enact the IKEA Restaurant dining experience at home.
