The Shaw House & Shaw Centre Complex, a dining destination already boasting Michelin-starred Les Amis and popular eateries like The Ship Restaurant and Sanpoutei Ramen, now welcomes a new addition: Penang Jiak. This mini food court, located within Food Republic in the basement of Shaw House, offers a curated selection of authentic Penang street food, bringing a taste of the Penang to the heart of Orchard Road in Singapore.
Penang Jiak in Food Republic
Launched in December 2024, Penang Jiak features a collection of stalls offering popular Penang dishes.
Anfu serves up the famed Assam Laksa alongside Penang Char Kway Teow and Fried Oysters.
Penang Georgetown specializes in Penang Hokkien Mee and Lor Mee.
I Mum Mum offers Penang Pan Mee (or ban mian) and Nasi Lemak.
The drinks stall, Lim Teh Corner, also offers Penang Rojak and desserts like chendol.
Ban Mian, Char Kway Teow & Lor Mee
We tried the Signature Ban Mian Soup ($6.50), Penang Char Kway Teow ($6.90), and Penang Lor Mee ($6.90).
The Pan Mee proved a delightful experience, with a light and fragrant broth that perfectly complemented the various ingredients.
The Char Kway Teow, with bean sprouts, garlic chives, Chinese sausage, and pork lard, had a satisfying wok hei and a truly enticing flavour.
The Lor Mee, customizable to your preference, was enjoyed in its classic form. The thick, flavorful broth, topped with pork belly, hard-boiled egg, bean sprouts, and an array of condiments, provided a comforting and satisfying meal.
Affordable Authentic Penang Dishes
Penang Jiak offers a compelling proposition: authentic Penang dishes at affordable prices. With its diverse selection and good quality food, this new addition to Shaw House should become a popular destination for those seeking a taste of Penang in Singapore’s prime shopping district.
