Ssada Gimbab (싸다김밥) is a Korean restaurant specialising in kimbap. According to Google Translate, their Korean name “싸다김밥” means “cheap kimbap”. We stopped by for a simple Korean meal at this popular River Valley mall recently.

Kimbap Restaurant at Great World City
Is it kimbap or gimbap? A quick internet search gave us this answer : they both refer to the same Korean dish i.e. a seaweed rice roll filled with various ingredients. The different spelling arises from the way the Korean word for seaweed and rice, “kim-bap” (김밥), is romanized. “Gimbap” is the official romanization according to the Revised Romanization of Korean while “kimbap” is the more common spelling in English.

Ssada Gimbab takes up a large space on level one of Great World City. The Korean restaurant has a clean, practical layout with different seating options. Ordering was done by scanning on the QR code placed at the table. Payment could be done via a link or physically at the counter. We used the latter as it seemed quicker to do so as there was no queue at the cashier.

Ssada Gimbab Great World Menu
There is more than just kimbap available at the restaurant. Different types of rice and stew dishes are available. Here are a couple of sample pages from the Ssada Gimbab Menu. We decided to try a ginseng chicken stew ($21) and a tuna gimbab ($12).

Korean Food Lunch at Great World City
The food was delivered by a robot around 15 minutes after ordering and payment.

The tuna gimbab was attractively presented. The rolls of rice were tightly wrapped and with the colourful ingredients artistically organised. It felt fresh and healthy as all the rice, vegetables (fresh and pickled) and tuna were dry and not oily. In a way it was like eating a salad with some rice.

We were more intrigued by the Ssada Gimbab ginseng chicken stew because everything was submerged. The menu stated that a whole young chicken was used in the making of this dish. Some pickles and rice accompanied the soup.

There was a fair amount of chicken in this ginseng stew. It was indeed a small chicken as the bones were small and the pieces could fit in the bowl. This was well cooked till the meat easily fell off the bone. Overall the broth had an even balanced chicken soup taste with only a slight ginseng taste. Not as potent as the one we tried at Gobong Samgyetang (ê³ ë´‰ì‚¼ê³„íƒ•) in Seoul during our recent trip but quite good nonetheless.

Free Coffee at Ssada Gimbab
Few things are free these days and so it was a pleasant surprise to see a machine offering free coffee at Ssada Gimbab. We followed the instruction to press the button.

A paper cup popped out of the machine and a nozzle started filling it with coffee. It was a coffee with milk and sugar (no choice). The predominant taste was sweetness. Would be good for those who need something sweet to round up a meal.
