Alice Boulangerie & Restaurant Raffles City is Alice’s second outlet. Their first outlet is at Icon Village in Tanjong Pagar. We recently had lunch at their new outlet which is situated in an outward-facing space of Raffles City that is across the road from Raffles Hotel.

Who is Alice?
Alice Boulangerie & Restaurant Raffles City has a unique location. It is housed in a separate pod outside the main shopping mall. We had to leave the main mall via an exit near the Nespresso shop to get to Alice. The path connecting the two is sheltered. There are some tables outdoors but most of the dining takes place indoors in airconditiioned comfort.

Looking at the “wooden house” in a lush garden concept, we had thought that Alice in Wonderland might have been the inspiration behind the name of this newish bakery cafe at Raffles City. But after checking their website, it seems that Alice is their mascot squirrel.
Fine Crumbs Bakery at Alice Boulangerie Raffles City
Entering the restaurant we see a bakery section named Fine Crumbs Bakery. According to its website, this is the latest creation from Alice Boulangerie targeting those who like their buns a little unexpected. The buns are described as “soft, fluffy, and filled to the brim with personality (and flavour)”. They are handcrafted daily and only available at the Raffles City flagship store.

Here are pictures of some baked goods on display at the Fine Crumbs Bakery section of the restaurant. The buns have interesting flavours such as crispy squid and black sesame peanut mochi.

According to a sign at the entrance, the baked items can be served at the tables inside.

Our first impressions of the restaurant were mostly positive. The tables were neatly arranged and not too close together. A long continuous wall of glass lets in lots of natural light while a strong air conditioning system kept the place nicely chilled amidst the current heat wave.

Executive Set Lunch Menu at Alice Restaurant Raffles City
We were there on a weekday and it was a full house. Fortunately we had a reservation. The above pictures of empty tables were taken when we arrived early. They filled up by 12.30pm.

On weekdays there is an executive set lunch menu with two courses priced at $36++. On this visit we tried one set lunch and an item from the ร la carte menu.
Lunch at Alice Boulangerie Raffles City
For our set lunch we selected a Truffle Mushroom Ben appetiser and Tuscan Braised Chicken Leg as main course.

This version of egg Benedict had mushroom and truffle flavors which well suited the egg. The overall taste was good. Portion size was also generous for an appetizer . This could also work as a light breakfast.

Not to be outdone, the main course was even better. The Tuscan chicken leg reminded us of a chicken tagine at Pistachio Grill, but with its unique combination of flavours from the onions, mushrooms and other condiments.
Tiger Prawn Cappelini
We did not try another set lunch as the other two appetizers did not look very interesting. We just ordered a main instead – a tiger prawn capellini ($30++).

The dish was more nicely plated than the chicken thigh (which looked somewhat untidy in comparison). But the pasta dish looked plainer – just a pile of pasta with three prawns and small condiments as toppings. But the secret weapon in the dish was something invisible – the intense prawn bisque that had been infused in the noodles. This was also a very enjoyable dish.
