Elijah Pies Joo Chiat is the third outlet and flagship of the creative pies shop that first started in Tanjong Pagar. They started as a cosy shop. Now it has a new sophisticated cafe in the East. This is an impressive addition to the bustling cafe scene at Joo Chiat.

I Also Have Pies For You in Joo Chiat

Thirteen years ago, the first Elijah Pies cafe opened in Tanjong Pagar Plaza. It was an instant hit. Their delicious and unique pie flavours were obvious reasons. We suspect the interesting decor of the shop also played a part. The exterior of the Elijah Pies Tanjong Pagar looks like a cottage on the ground floor of an HDB block (see picture below). The interior is cozy and even has a “fireplace”. You can see more pictures in our post Elijah Pies Tanjong Pagar Cafe – I Only Have Pies For You.

From Cosy Cottage to Modern Contemporary
This is a very large space for a cafe. Especially so for one that is specialising in pies. We were glad that they have not tried to squeeze as many tables as possible into the space. The wide circulation areas and spaces between tables are a welcome change from the crowded cafes that are common these days.

The dining space felt comfortable and tranquil. The new aircon system was effective in defeating the crazy Singapore heat outside.

There is an inner space with a glass skylight. This may not be our preferred seating area on bright sunny days like the current time. But it could be a great place on rainy days (provided it does not get too noisy).

Some of the cakes and pies that Elijah Pies is known for are on display.

Elijah Pies Joo Chiat Menu
Here are pictures of the Elijah Pies menu at the flagship Joo Chiat outlet. It is an easy menu to navigate. The main food sections are savoury pies, pizza pies and dessert pies.

Of course coffee, tea and a few fancy mocktails are also available.

Our Pie Lunch at Joo Chiat
For our lunch we selected the Seaweed Chicken Pie ($15) and Snow Crab Laksa Pie ($17).

The chicken pie was a larger pie. It was a pie of poached chicken in puff pastry. Crumbs of roasted seaweed were scattered around it. It was a substantial pie. The creamy chicken inside combined well with the pastry shell. Eating each spoonful was even better with added pieces of the seaweed. We would have preferred it less salty, but otherwise it was very good.

Any pie made with laksa contents would be unusual enough. To combine the strong flavours of laksa with the delicate flavours of snow crab made it doubly so. Fortunately, the folks at Elijah Pies demonstrated their mastery of pie craft. The Elijah Snow Crab Laksa Pie was filled with laksa bisque and topped with pieces of Hokkaido snow crab legs. The precious pieces of crab kept their fresh seafood flavour while the laksa flavour was mild enough not to distract from the crab, but assertive enough to let its presence be felt. If only it was larger, this would be a perfect pie. I think each person can easily eat two of this in one sitting. Pairing this with champagne will be quite fitting.

Dessert : Elijah’s Souffle
Our dessert at Elijah Pies Joo Chiat was Elijah’s Souffle pie ($18). In the menu it is luxuriously described as: “A cloud-soft soufflé that reveals a warm gianduja centre over almond joconde and hazelnut praliné“. Also being the most expensive item at lunch that day, we naturally had high expectations for it. It was indeed very good. It will not look out of place as a dessert in a fine dining restaurant.

We had coffee with dessert. The coffee was not bad but not of the quality of the food.

There are some outdoor tables at Elijah Pies Joo Chiat but the present haze and hot weather made everyone stay indoors. For more dining options in this area, see our post : TOP Cafes in Joo Chiat.
