Chao Shan Cuisine (潮山林) is a traditional Teochew restaurant at Philip Street, a stone’s throw from the OCBC Centre. They had moved from Beach Road to this location in the heart of Raffles Place in 2016. We stopped by with Teochew braised goose on our minds.
If there is a “soup opera” about wanton noodle sellers in Joo Chiat, Ang Moh Noodle House 红毛面家 will be one of the intriguing characters in the story. Ang Moh started selling wanton noodles in Joo Chiat back in 1960s. Hong Mao Mian Jia 红毛面家 or Ang Moh Noodle House operated from different locations and sometime in 2013 the business was sold to a loyal fan of the stall. After the sale there were more twists and turns.
Putien Ion Orchard is one of the many outlets of Putien Restaurant (莆田). Its main store in Singapore, Putien Kitchener Road is a one Michelin Star restaurant. On this visit we decided to try the braised chestnut with sea cucumber.
This packet of Prima Taste Ready Meal – Chicken Claypot Rice at NTUC Fairprice supermarket caught our when we were there recently. It has nice packaging and the important words: “Microwave Ready in 90 Seconds”. Always on the lookout for easy meals at home we bought a couple of packs to try.
We decided to have a quiet Monday night dinner at a top Chinese restaurant in Singapore, Wah Lok at Carlton Hotel. It is a popular restaurant at lunch when dim sum is served, especially on weekends. Dinner time is quieter, especially on a Monday night.
YY Kafei Dian is an old school Hainanese coffeeshop given a bit of a modern spruce up. It sells Hainanese chicken rice and good old coffee shop food at, though not quite good old prices, very reasonable prices.
