Yamagawa is a Japanese restaurant hidden at the Plaza behind the Parkroyal on Beach Road Hotel. Its decor is that of a traditional Japanese restaurant with dark wood furniture – simple and elegant. There is a sushi bar, teppanyaki griddle and private tatami rooms.
On their menu are bentos, teppanyaki, sashimi, assorted sushi, handrolls as well as rice bowls and noodles. Bento boxes start from $20. They offer set meals and there is an “a-la-carte” buffet dinner at $35 ($38 in the weekends).
We ordered the Yakiniku Set and a Niku Jyaga (simmered beef). The food was served promptly. Portions were fairly generous. Both the stir fried beef and simmered beef were really good. The takoyaki (a ball-shaped wheat flour-based snack) that came with the set was especially delicious.
Service was prompt and the staff were responsive and efficient. There is a wide choice of items. Prices are reasonable and generally we think they give good value. Overall, if we are looking for good Japanese food in a place with cosy ambiance, we will think of Yamagawa.
