Located on the second level of Star Vista, Morganfield’s claims to serve the best ribs in town! We had lunch there to check them out.
Housed in a large corner unit at the Star Vista mall with full glass windows on three sides, the restaurant is a bright and attractive place. The decor is done in a country-style that suits their theme of American blues inspired “good ol’ fashioned barbecued pork ribs, with an extra dose of charming Southern hospitality”. It is obvious that the star of the show here is the ribs which are prepared in a few ways. For those who are not keen on ribs, they also have seafood items as well as other meat dishes such as roasted chicken, steaks and burgers. We ordered a full slab of hickory bbq spare ribs ($39.90) to be shared by two persons and a bacon cheeseburger.
The ribs come with a choice of sides. We decided to have fries and corn bread. The full slab of ribs was huge. It was more than enough for two – in fact three people with an average appetite will be quite content to have this for lunch. The ribs that were served that day were very long and meaty and had lots of meat between the bones. The hickory bbq sauce added a sweet tangy flavour to offset the oiliness of the meat.
The burger also came in a large portion. Fully stacked with caramelized onion, cheddar and crispy bacon in between the buns, this will make a hungry person very happy. The portion of fries was also generous. The best beverage to go with bbq ribs and burgers is of course an ice-cold beer. The folks at Morganfield’s must have read our minds and priced their beers very reasonably – $6 and $8 for pints of Carlsberg and Kronenbourg Blanc respectively.
Ribs and Beer at Morganfield’s – it turned out to be a very substantial lunch in a pleasant restaurant. The staffs were also very friendly. Was it the best ribs in town? Hard to say, because we have also tasted some pretty good stuff elsewhere but in terms of the complete package of beer prices, ambience and service, we think this is certainly one of the best places to go for ribs in Singapore. On Mondays to Fridays they have set lunches starting from $9.90 for black pepper chicken chop with soup/salad and a drink. That sounds like good value for money.
