The Lady M cafe @ Orchard Central is the cafe with the most dramatic interior in Orchard Road, if not the whole Singapore. Split over a few separate levels, you can choose to dine next to the double height windows and watch the Orchard Road action below or opt for the lower level and admire the four-storey high ceiling and the bright precious space in between.
Like the trail that leads to the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, the entrance into the Lady M cafe @ Orchard Central looks unexciting, plain and does not give any clue as to what lies beyond. You walk past a row of cake displays and high tables, turn at the cashier’s work area, turn right and then all of a sudden, you emerge at the top of some stairs that lead you into a big bright oasis. You say to yourself – Wow! The memories from Petra came to mind – when we rounded the last bend of the narrow path to catch our first glimpse of the jaw dropping Treasury ruin which hitherto we had only seen in one of the Indiana Jones movies.
Behold!
Yes, we are a bit over-dramatic but you would agree that the place looks amazing right? Like Petra it is also so well hidden, you can’t see it from the outside. Here is a picture of the first glimpse of the real Petra.
Lady M can serve plain bread with instant coffee and we would still want to return just to experience this place again. But fortunately they do offer more than that. Nothing gourmet but simple cafe type food. Here is the Lady M menu.
We had a Lady’s Benedict ($12). Nothing exceptional about this eggs Benedict, but perfectly fine. Lady M is known for their cakes. Here are the cakes that we tried – chocolate Arc-En-Ciel and Millie Crepes. They were good, but a bit pricey – costing $8.50 each.
Overall, Lady M cafe @ Orchard Central was a stunning restaurant in the heart of Orchard Road. Perfect for a shopping break or a tete-a-tete with friends.
