Prego is one of Singapore’s favourite Italian restaurants. The restaurant in Raffles City, just next to the side entrance to the Fairmount Singapore Hotel, has been around for a long time. The names of the hotels in Raffles City have changed a few times but Prego remains; and that attests to the goodwill and value attached to the name “Prego”. The restaurant is popular with the corporate types, especially for lunch on weekdays, and for a hearty dinner of classic Italian fare and fine wines. We think that brunch or breakfast at Prego Singapore is also a great option.
Prego Singapore is a modern Italian restaurant with a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. The decor is that of a casual Italian-style restaurant, with large chalk boards on the walls and prosciutto and sausages hanging from awnings.
It is a wine bar and trattoria and has been serving authentic Italian cusine and making pizza and pasta lovers happy for many years. However for breakfast, Prego Singapore becomes a place for a multi-cultural breakfast, serving a multi-national clientele.
Breakfast at Prego Singapore is served from 6 am to 11 am. The price for the International Breakfast Buffet is $39. Currently there is an Italian Berlucchi Sunday brunch (12 noon to 3 pm) featuring antipasti, Italian farm cheeses, as well as pasta and risotto.
Breakfast at Prego Singapore is a luxurious buffet with a sumptuous spread of American, Continental and Asian breakfast staples. The typical egg station, waffle and pancake station, cereal, pastries, cold cuts and sausages are available.
Prego has counters serving gluten-free breads, pastries and cereals. There are also sections which cater to vegetarians.
What may be surprising is that the buffet spread is really multi-cultural. The different types of porridge available illustrate the point. There are English oatmeal porridge as well as condiments and side dishes for a Japanese rice porridge breakfast, Indian daliya breakfast and Chinese congee breakfast.
There are local dishes too – like Nasi Lemak. Even traditional Chinese dim sum has been given a local twist. So instead of the traditional Cantonese buns there are pandan kaya paus.
So whether you are a fan of the American breakfast, Malay breakfast, Japanese breakfast or local breakfast, you will not be disappointed. If you are a fan of the real Singaporean breakfast – which means a bit (or in some cases, a lot) of everything – you will be pleased with the variety and diversity of the breakfast buffet spread of Prego Singapore.
Overall, we found the quality of the food we tried during our breakfast at Prego Singapore to be good, and we liked the aromatic strong coffee. Prego Singapore blends a pleasant setting, a good selection of food and an efficient but friendly service to ensure an excellent buffet breakfast experience. Breakfast at Prego Singapore should appeal to a broad spectrum of diners. Whether you are a business executive in a hurry, a family on holiday or just ordinary patrons of Singapore looking for a decadent breakfast – breakfast at Prego Singapore should be a good start to your day.
