Publico Deli, InterContinental Robertson Quay (Renamed Marcello)

Publico, InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay is a new restaurant in a new hotel in Singapore. According to their website, Publico has two personalities. By day, “Publico Deli offers all of the traditional fare you’d expect from a gourmet delicatessen – Italian cold cuts, imported cheese, warm flaky pastries and more…  At night, Publico Ristorante lights up the riverside. Cuisine is classic Italian with a contemporary twist…”    We were there for brunch and therefore only got to experience the daytime Publico Deli.

Publico Deli is an attractive place. I think this was probably what attracted us to have brunch here. It is located on the ground floor of the new InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay, which is the place formerly known as the Gallery Hotel, just off Mohamed Sultan Road. The Intercontinental people seem to have converted the previously modern minimalist hotel to a luxurious, swanky style of hotel.

Publico Deli Menu

The menu of Publico Deli is quite a simple one. It did not take us long to decide on the Southern Fried Chicken & Waffles ($19), Avocado on Tuscan Toast ($15), Italian Meatball panini ($20) and profiteroles ($10) for dessert.

Brunch at Publico Deli

Southern Fried Chicken & Waffles was the best dish of the day. The chicken was moist, well marinated and flavourful. The waffles were a bit hard and dense, but overall this was an above-average version of fried chicken and waffles.

The Italian meatballs panini was average in terms of both looks and taste. Basically few meatballs with tomato sauce were sandwiched in  between a baguette. Some sweet potato wedges were served on the side.

The avocado toast was fine but not memorable. We only tried one dessert – the profiteroles which looked attractive enough. But the taste was predominantly that of sweetness. The chocolate sauce was diluted and runny.

The coffee was very good. At $5 for a cappuccino in this part of town, it is very reasonably priced.
