Fu Lin Men Cantonese Dining is a new restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club serving Hong Kong Dim Sum, roast meats and a variety of Cantonese dishes. This Chinese restaurant in Amber Road, Katong, is a place where you can have a simple meal or a banquet.
Fu Lin Men Restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club
The new restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club is part of the Passion Group which also has restaurants in Keppel Club, Raffles Country Club, Hotel Re and Hotel Royal @ Queens. A substantial part of Passion Group’ business is catering to weddings and solemnization ceremonies, with special packages for indoor or alfresco options, offering menus covering Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Muslim food as well as local and international dishes.
Fu Lin Men Cantonese Dining in Chinese Swimming Club took over the space previously occupied by Paradise Teochew Restaurant. It would appear that little was done to change the neat elegant decor fairly typical of a contemporary Chinese restaurant.
Fu Lin Men Menu
When we visited Fu Lin Men Restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club for lunch, they had a fairly limited selection of dim sum and a special snacks menu.
The main menu was quite extensive and covers all the typical dishes you would expect to find in a Chinese restaurant. Below are photos of a few pages from the main menu of Fu Li Men.
Dim Sum at Fu Li Men Restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club
We selected a few dim sum items for lunch – fried radish cake with XO sauce ($8), beancurd skin rill with prawns ($5.80), xiao long bao ($4.50) and the runny custard bao ($4.50). The service charge and GST, plus the usual Chinese restaurants “overheads’ (appetizers and wet towels), will be added to the bill.
The fried radish cake with XO sauce was the best dish of the dim sum lunch. The radish cake had a nice soft texture with a crispy skin. The mildly spicy sauce boosted the flavours and made the dish very and enjoyable.
The bean curd roll with thin crispy skin was of the expected standard.
The Xiao Long Baos of Fu Lin Men Restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club were a little unusual because they were served with little aluminum cups, presumably so that the soup inside the dumplings would not be wasted. Tastewise, they were very average. We had better Xiao Long Baos in quite a few other places.
The runny custard bao or liu sar bao at Fu Li Men Restaurant was very plain looking. The “snap before you eat chap” would be disappointed as cutting open the plain exterior revealed a viscous custard that was not runny. There would be no lava flow picture to post on social media. Notwithstanding the look, the steamed soft bun with sweet savoury filling was delightful.
Overall our dim sum lunch at the new restaurant in Chinese Swimming Club was not bad and we would be happy to eat there again. Fu Lin Men Cantonese Dining in Katong has a pleasant setting in a nice location and the menu caters to those who want a quick simple meal as well as those who want an elaborate banquet.
