Tenjin Singapore, Tempura Bowls at New Restaurant in Shaw Centre by Les Amis

Tenjin is another new restaurant in Shaw Centre by the Les Amis Group. This new restaurant specialises in tempura donburi or tendon for short. In case the name “Les Amis” makes you imagine dollar signs flying out of your wallet, don’t worry. The tempura rice bowls at Tenjin are quite reasonably priced.

The Les Amis group has been expanding their presence in Shaw Centre by opening quite a few new restaurants. Jinjo sumiyaki restaurant, Indigo Blue Peranakan restaurant and Kausmo are some of the more recent ones. We had lunch at Tenjin tempura restaurant at Shaw Centre recently and must say we like it the most out of the three that we have tried so far.

Tenjin is a small and pleasant restaurant on level 3 of Shaw Centre. We like its focus on tempura. In fact, there are only three main food items on the menu – the Premium bowl ($22.80), the Special bowl ($14.80) and the Vegetable bowl ($12.80). We decided on one each of the Premium and Vegetable bowls.

Tenjin Menu

Here is the picture of the Tenjin Menu. Like the restaurant itself it is neat and uncluttered, almost zen-like.

The meal starts off with a soup and a salad.

These are the vegetable bowl (left) and the premium bowl that were subsequently served.

Tenjin Tendon Premium Bowl

The premium bowl was stuffed with so many items we had to offload half of them onto a side dish before we could start eating. The items on top of the rice included anago, crab leg, prawn, fish, vegetables and soft egg. There was a choice of sauces. The spicy sauce that we opted for was hardly spicy. It was very pleasant. The tempura items were well cooked. The batter was light and not oily.

For a more healthy option (for the body and wallet) we also tried a vegetable bowl. Although it is more modestly priced, it was a very nice bowl of tempura donburi. For $12.80, it was quite affordable which is a description which one may not usually associate with a Les Amis restaurant. If we are in the Scotts Road/Orchard area in search of a quick meal, Tenjin tempura bowls in Shaw Centre is on our shortlist.
