Tuk Tuk Cha is a popular casual cafe for Thai milk tea and desserts. Started as a Thai dessert kiosk, it now also serves light bites and has more than 10 outlets including the new Tuk Tuk Cha @ PLQ and Tuk Tuk Cha @ Causeway Point.
Tuk Tuk Cha @ PLQ
The new Tuk Tuk Cha at Paya Lebar Quarter operates out of a kiosk in PLQ Plaza – a spacious sheltered piazza. There are tables for the general public in the piazza but now there are a few tables reserved for kiosks patrons.
In the evenings, or whenever it is not too sunny, a seat at Tuk Tuk Cha at PLQ can be very pleasant. It is a vantage point with a great view of the wide open space and is also a great place to people watch.
Tuk Tuk Cha Menu
Thai milk tea is their speciality but Tuk Tuk Cha also offers a range of speciality beverages. Noodles, rice bowls and sandwiches are also on Tuk Tuk Cha’s menu.
There are various set meals available and there are special deals for students.
Set Meals
We visited the new Tuk Tuk Cha @ PLQ recently and ordered 2 set meals – Tom Yum Chicken Rice Bowl with Lemongrass Drink ($10.90) and Thai Green Curry with Cold Thai Milk Tea ($7.50).
Tom Yum Chicken Rice Bowl looked fiery hot and it was. The fried chicken was quite nice. However, everything in the rice bowl, except for the steamed rice, was generously coated with tom yum powder. The spicy and tangy taste of tom yum was dominant. It was too hot for us but those who would like the tingly numbness caused hot chilli might enjoy Tuk Tuk Cha’s Tom Yum Chicken Rice Bowl.
The Thai Green Curry Sandwich was more up our alley. The bread was soft and fluffy and the filling of chicken, egg and vegetables was quite generous. The sandwich made a good complete meal with all the basic food groups.
The Thai Green Curry Sandwich was delectable. The bold flavours of Thai green curry were unmistakable. There were all the complexities of the spices and herbs. It had nice aroma, good mix of textures; and it was not too spicy.
The ice cold Thai milk tea was the best part of the meal. It was everything we expected it to be – aromatic, smooth and indulgent.
