Dinner at The Summerhouse

The Summerhouse is a multi-concept F&B destination located in a conserved colonial bungalow at Seletar Aerospace Park. Set amidst an idyllic landscape with lush greenery, it is a popular wedding venue. A romantic dinner at The Summerhouse may also be the ideal occasion for a surprise marriage proposal.

Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP) with its expansive lush tropical greenery has become a popular dining destination for those who want to get away from the city for a bit. One of the unique F&B establishments in the SAP is The Summerhouse – a restaurant, bar and cafe – housed within a Royal Air Force Bungalow of the colonial era.

On the ground level of The Summerhouse is the Wildseed Cafe, which is great for a casual brunch date or afternoon tea.  In the evening, the Wildseed Garden Bar with its ambient lighting and soulful music can be a nice place for dinner or just drinks to chill.

Summerhouse Garden Domes

Set within the verdant Summerhouse Edible Garden is the exclusive Summerhouse Garden Domes where guests can wine and dine under the stars in the comfort of air-conditioned geodesic domes.

The Summerhouse Dining Room on the upper level of the bungalow is great for a relaxing dinner. It is charming and romantic in a laid back sort of way.

The Summerhouse Menu

The communal-style menu of The Summerhouse is described as “nature-inspired Authentic French farm-to-table cuisine”. The restaurant partners with farming collective of growers, producers and kelongs to get fresh sustainable produce. It also uses garnishes and herbs harvested from its own edible garden. The French dishes here are unabashedly back to basic.

The brunch menu and dinner menu can be viewed on the website of the restaurant. Below are pictures of sections of the dinner menu.

We had dinner at The Summerhouse Dining Room and went for the Summerhouse Kitchen Table Menu ($70 each).

Starters

The dinner started with bread and three small sharing plates.

We did not think that the avocado dish with chia seed crackers and truffle paste and the Moroccan eggplant were very French but they were interesting and palatable. We could make our own open faced avocado and eggplant sandwiches with the bread.

Grilled Prawns at The Summerhouse

The best starter dish was the grilled prawns. Simply done but delicious.

The Mains

For a dining party of 2, we could choose two mains out of a list of four. We opted for the red snapper and duck leg confit. The mains were served with a salad of sweet potato leaves and baby spinach and a bowl of potato puree.

The smoked potato puree was a special and delicious dish. The ingredients were interesting – mushrooms, parsley emulsion and beef stock – and combined well to produced layers of flavours. We never thought mashed potato could taste so good.

The red snapper was served with a savoury tangy broth. The dish looked pretty and tasted quite nice. The fish was smooth and moist and had a firm texture. The broth reminded us of the Teochew-style dish of steamed pomfret with salted plums and salted mustard greens.

duck confit at The Summerhouse Singapore

The best dish of our dinner at The Summerhouse was the Confit de Canard. It was everything we expected of the French classic made by slow-roasting duck meat in its own fat. The duck skin was crisp and caramelized. The meat of the duck leg was smooth and tender. It was flavourful and delectable. One of the most enjoyable duck confit we have had in Singapore.

Desserts

Our dessert was chocolate ice cream with vanilla custard on a hazelnit cookie on a plate to be shared by two. A rather intimate way to end dinner. The ice dessert was not very special but it helped to complete a good satisfying meal.

Delightful Experience

We enjoyed our dinner at The Summerhouse. It was a delightful experience. The location was unique and the ambience was nice. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was good.

Whether you are just dining with the family, having a casual date night, hoping to plan for a wedding or celebrating a wedding anniversary, The Summerhouse can be a charming venue for a delightful dinner.
